Darien Dash; One Man’s Journey to Creation of Excellence in Business and Technology
Darien Dash has distinguished himself as an astute businessman, with a keen interest in evolving trends in technology and a generous spirit. The 48-year-old has made it his life mission to improve access to technology to promote quality of life.
Inspired by the book Megatrends, Darien Dash believes that the now and the future of business is on the internet. In the 1990s, Dash with his cousin Damon, launched the Roc-A-Bloc, a recording company. In two years, the company signed up with the then-upcoming artist, Jay Z, a deal that saw them get about $100K. In 1994, Dash independently launched the DME Interactive Holdings. The purpose of the company was to help minority communities to access technological hardware and software. DME Interactive Holdings became the first African-American company to be publicly traded on Wallstreet in 1999. The company, Places of Colour, was created as a result of the partnership between Darien Dash and Carly Fiorina. The company availed affordable computers to the minority communities around New York City. Places of Colour received the award of Regional and National Technology Firm of the Year.
Darien Dash is currently the Managing Director at Movement Management Advisors. The company is a strategic advisor to a variety of personalities in athletics, entertainment industries as well as CEOs. Additionally, Dash continues with his work of empowering communities in technology use and access. He is a Board member at HEAVEN(Helping Educate Activate Volunteer Empower via Net). This organization helps young people acquire top-notch technological skills.
