FACTORS affecting CLIMATE

climate change is the long term change in the usual weather patterns. It is caused by factors that are either natural or human. However, human courses of climate change are the most common, as will be shown in the text. Australia, for some time, has been ignorant of the effects of climate change until bush fir strikes the country. According to sources, the climate conditions had provided good fuel for these fires (Bryant).

Introduction or objective :

climate change across the globe has recently been one of the most key areas for scientists as well as activists who value the environment. It is a menace that is affecting both people and th surrounding (Whitmarsh, 2008).  According to research, the climate changes as a result of human activity (Bluemle et al., 2001), which is its main course,  has the potential to change the prevalence and severity of extreme weather like storms, droughts, heat and cold waves and also floods. Recently, Australia has attracted worldwide concerns about the harsh effects of climate change since the fire break out. For this reason, the essay below is dedicated to comparing the rainfall and temperature for Australia in the year 2001 and 2017.

Australia is one of the countries endowed with abundant sunshine and hence renewable sources of energy (Hua et al. 2016). However, it is one of the countries that emit the largest amount of carbon dioxide (Bradshaw et al., 2010), which is one of the most lethal greenhouse gasses that cause global warming.  For this reason, it is one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change (Hughes, 2011), yet so reluctant to join the rest of the world in mitigating the threat. Either the government has continually failed to reinforce policies to curb the threat. For this reason, the country has experienced huge fluctuations in the rainfall amount received over the years, and even more, the temperatures.

Methods :

In order to come u with the best comparison of the two elements of weather, I collected secondary data from the Australia annual climate statements for the respective years. The comparison was made depending on the annual aggregated values of the elements of the weather at hand.

Results/discussion

  1. Annual temperature and rainfall in 2001.

The annual temperature record, as per the Australia annual climate summary, showed that the temperature for that year fluctuated within 0.02oC and –0.19oC, maximum and minimum, respectively.  This was an indication that the temperatures were on a rising trend, as indicated on the graph. Adelaide city had recorded the highest temperatures for the year having 43.3 °C, whereas Darwin had recorded 36.3(°C), which was the lowest.

On the other hand, the rainfall amounts for the year as a whole was above average.  This was mainly contributed to by January, March, June, October, and the November rains.

  1. Annual temperature and rainfall in 2017

For this year, th temperatures were very high than normal. Maximum temperatures were especially warm; monthly mean maxima were amongst the ten warmest on record for March, and each month from May to September, and also for December. The rains, also, were above the expected amount in eastern o central Victoria.  However, fo most inland areas, the rainfall was not enough.
Conclusions :

Both the temperatures and the rains for the two years were not similar. A gradual rise in temperatures has been shown. More inconsistency, also, in the rain patterns, was also noted.
