RIP VAN WINKLE
Rip Van winkle is a brief story written by the author Washington Irving. It clearly illustrates the surprise changes that Rip Van met in his village after falling asleep in the mountains for 20years since he took the liquor, which the inhabitants he met in the mountains gave him. He realized he had grown old from his astonishment, and his children were all grown-ups, his wife too was dead, but he never grieved for her since he had escaped due to her nagging behavior’s.
His idol guy, King George portrait, was replaced by King George Washington. Without realizing that the American Revolution had taken place, he proclaims himself as a faithful follower of King George, which nearly brings trouble upon him with the villagers. Luckily, an older woman who recognizes him come to his rescue explains what had happened during his run-away period, which makes him understand the entanglement within his village and the reason behind the portrait’s replacement.
Nevertheless, he learns that most of his friends died during the revolutionary war, but literally, he is happy to learn that as per that moment, he is a free citizen in his own country. Gradually Rip Van unites with his daughter, who gives him refuge as he continues to give stories to the people interested in his encounter with the inhabitants of the mountains.
