Shadow of the Battlefield

As a result of government policies, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children experienced forceful removal from their families. Consequently, these stolen generations have experienced significant loss and trauma, which have been much felt by the victims and families associated. From the weekly topic, the image of the shadow of the battlefield can be related. This stolen generation has been living with the shadow of war in such a way that there are connected to their origin. After being assimilated to inherit the white culture, the victim recalls the fateful events on how his people were poisoned and murdered to death. The Australian colonial history was marked by alienation and dispossession of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders; this was propelled by government policies that assimilated and segregated these inhabitants from their culture.  In pursuit of reconciling Australia, theirshadows offer an excellent foundation for historical acceptance. Reconciliation can be attained through the collaboration of significant institutions with the Australian community in acknowledging past wrongs and formulating guidelines to prevent them from occurring in the future. The Australians, especially the victims of the devastating actions, are recommended to be trustworthy while telling their experiences to realize healing and justice.

Unity also poses as a form of reconciliation. Regarding the shadow of the battlefield, the histories, rights and cultures of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander can be modelled to be valued and appreciated as Australia’s national identity. The shadow of the war could be symbolic in upholding the significance of First Australians. Additionally, organizations, including Reconciliation Australia, can contribute towards reconciling Australia by educating Australians on the importance of reconciliation. Finally, the victims suffering from trauma can be cushioned through equity and equality; it involves giving both the indigenous and non-indigenous equal opportunities and equity in all aspects of lives.
