Popular culture and Sexuality
For over 100 years, sex has been a polemical issue across the United States. This might be attributed to the sexual revolution that has happened over the years, the changing cultural norms, and people’s perspective on sex. The media has been at the center stage of this controversy because the amount of sexual content being aired on the television is alarming (Sternheimer,2013). The media noted that including sexual content in movies, thus it attracts more profit and attention.
The politicians started calling for the government to censor Hollywood when it became clear that the film industry negatively influenced society by promoting sexualized images in movies.
Hollywood films do not represent sexuality in distorted ways. This is because movies mostly portray the culture, views, and expectations of society. Films from other countries do portray women who are partially nude because it is unacceptable in their social culture.
