Leadership program for a Midsized Company
INTRODUCTION
The success of a business organization or company heavily relies on the kind of leadership programs that exist in the organization. Proper management and leadership skills are not only relevant to the success of a company but also for the growth and the development of the workers in that company. The Safe Oil Company is a midsized company that has decided to develop a new leadership program that will help it to achieve its goals. This company deals with the transportation and sale of petroleum in three countries. The countries are Canada, the United States and Colombia. This company was started in the year 1995. The vision of this company has always been to grow globally and be one of the leading companies in the world when it comes to oil transportation and sales. Twenty-five years down the line, the company has only managed to grow into three companies. To realize its goals, the company is now seeking a new leadership program.
Proposed Leadership Strategies
The best strategy that can be advocated for the Safe Oil Company is a Thought self-leadership (TSL) strategy. This kind of leadership strategy can be useful in helping this company to achieve its goals and visions. With a sort of approach, the workers are allowed to be more independent and self-driven (Singh, Kumar & Puri, 2017). The workers in this leadership strategy do not require so much supervision. Self-driven employees contribute a lot to the growth of the company since they honestly work towards realizing the goals of the company. To create a TSL leadership style, the company needs to invest in leadership training for employees. This strategy can help the safe oil company to grow globally and become one of the world’s leading petroleum companies.
Assessing Leadership Capabilities
The first tool in determining employee’s leadership capabilities in the TSL strategy is through character observation. Employees who portray the character traits of self-drive and high self-efficacy can become good leaders (Walumbwa & Hartnell, 2012). The TSL strategy requires leaders who are self-driven and leaders who believe in their potential. This kind of leaders also tends to help other employees to be self-driven and to have high efficacy.
Performance assessment is another tool that can be vital in determining leadership capabilities among workers. Workers, especially in the sales department who portray high productivity, can make good leaders in the organization (Walumbwa & Hartnell, 2012). Employees who describe high levels of productivity at work tend to be good team workers and vision-oriented. For this company to achieve its goals, it needs such kind of leaders.
Leadership methods for each region
Visionary leadership methods are highly applicable to the management of this company. Visionary ways are where the leaders convey the visions of the company to the employees. The leaders using the visionary methods focus on inspiring the workers to be productive (Prucell, 2019). These methods would be useful in the United States and Canada. The cultures of Canadians and Americans make them work better when they are highly motivated and involved in the goals of the company.
Transactional leadership methods are also highly applicable. These methods require the use of incentive to make the workers more productive. These incentives can be rewarded if workers hit specific targets at work. This strategy, when applied, they help the workers to become more self-driven and more focused on their work. This method can be highly effective in Colombia. The culture of Colombians makes them more productive when there are incentives.
CONCLUSION
The change of leadership style formally will help The Safe Company to start rising and achieving its goals. The proposed leadership styles promote employees to be more business-oriented and more self-driven. Self-driven employees are necessary for the growth and expansion of a company. When the employees are self-driven, they tend to offer better services to the customer and therefore making the company more competitive. The goals of The Safe Oil Company can be realized through this new proposed leadership program.
