The thousand and one nights
Introduction
The thousand and one night’s piece is a timeless literature classic, and there are solid reasons why this is so. From the selections covered in class, the piece comes off as unique, and this is because of the various themes it covers. From the theme about leadership where we are introduced to a kingdom, to religion where Islam is portrayed to be the practiced religion at the time, the piece acts as a historical lens where we are taken back in time. The frame of the narrative where one story opens up for the narration of other stories makes the piece even more interesting a shift from the other works covered where other stories are not contained in the story being told. I found the piece interesting due to the presence of the Arab element of culture in the story. The start of the story with a prayer was captivating, giving the reader a sense of praying in Islam. The prayer at the start of the story seemed odd at first to me because it is very unusual for a story to begin with a prayer. Still, as I read on, it all made sense to me that prayer is a vital component in the lives of the characters and communities as a whole. In conclusion, the piece, even though different in its way because of the cultures it covers specifically the Arab and Indian culture, does fulfill its objective, which is to tell the story of these two cultures.
