Incident Type: Hospitalization
Individuals Involved: Unconscious Female Patients.
Date and Time of Incident: August 4, 2020.
Precipitating Events
Accidental injury while at work. The patient fell off a staircase, obtained a head injury, and became unconscious immediately.
Description of Incident
She was going to the second floor of the building. She missed her step and fell backward to the ground floor of the building. Then she hit her head severely on the concrete and lost consciousness right away. Her colleagues called in an ambulance since her condition was past first aid services. She was bleeding out from her head, mouth, and ears.
Results of Incident
The patient got to the hospital 25 minutes after the fall. Her pulse was weak, and she had slid into a comatose state. The fall from the high edged stairs injured her severely. As a result of the injury, she had lost a lot of blood. Also, there was another injury noted on her left foot. The patient thus needs urgent medical attention.
Intervention / Actions Taken
The first action taken was to give the patient a blood transfusion since she had lost a lot. The patient was put on a ventilator to stabilize her. An MRI scan was taken to check on the extent of damage to help treat her. The results indicate a traumatic brain injury. The patients will remain under observation as the bleeding and damage are controlled. The patient may need surgery, but for now, she will be under diuretics medicine to reduce the fluid in tissues.
