Jeremy, who has also published numerous articles and journal articles and journals on executive compensation matters, offers the following advice to new lawyers.

Self-educate

Jeremy believes that learning of law does not stop after exiting law school. It should be a continuous lifelong process that should help cement your experience as a lawyer—spare personal time to read and explore more about your area. While many lawyers, especially those joining the profession, will consider learning a burden towards achieving their ambitions, it helps. Read several treatises to have in insight into issues that you could be overlooking or lack knowledge. Also, take some time to write about them to assist you in sharpening your expertise.

Have mentors

Every profession needs mentors. It will take you a shorter time to become the lawyer that you aspire to be if you have mentors than when you are pursuing the path alone. While mentors can be tricky, taking to as many veterans in the field as possible will facilitate your learning process. Mentors will sometimes offer advice that conflicts with your beliefs, but consulting many veterans will give you a wider perspective of issues. Take criticisms positively because honest mentors will tell you the truth.

Befriend your Peers

While you may look up to mentors to steer you in your career progress, it is worth understanding that your peers are also a crucial part of your success journey. Befriend peers who are starting the journey with you and encourage each other to become the successful lawyers that you dream. Form a strong network and continuously learn from one another because you will spend a long time working with some of your peers. They will shape your career a great deal.

Utilize Modern Technology

Do not live in the 19th century if you dream of becoming a successful attorney. Seize the technological innovation available and make your work easier. Digitalize your files for easy retrieval whenever you need them. Consult the tools of technology throughout your career.
