Part Two
As a doctor, I would find it suitable to apply Kate Bowler’s spiritual myths when treating a patient suffering from cancer. The prosperity gospel argues that if we pray to Almighty God, he will bless us with good health, wealth, and happiness. The phrase motivated her, and every time she wished to get back to her healthy life. As a medic, i would always share this with my patients.
The spiritual myth by Kate Bowler of that the prosperity gospel helps people set horizons and expectations would be of help to me as a doctor when treating a patient. I would put all my efforts to save the patient from succumbing to death. The myth behind that is that the efforts would bear good fruits of saving the patient. The prosperity gospel would make me believe that the patient would come from that situation and that life would give the patient another chance of living.
The spiritual myth by many people is that cancer is brought by what people eat. This statement should not come from a doctor as it may make a patient lose hope of recovering from the disease. Kate describes the gospel as a country of individualists who only care for themselves. In the medical profession, I would embrace others’ love and show love to the patients suffering and give them the best services that would see them out of the painful situation.
Kate also argues that the prosperity gospel only focusses on the things yet to come. Cancer is an enemy that should be fought by all people. She argues that we should join or sympathize with those suffering from the disease and focus all our efforts in fighting the disease.
The myth is that people tend to forget others when they are facing difficulties in life. As a medic, message of sympathy and hope would fasten the recovering of my patients.
