The Crisis Maker
- Why do you feel you fit into this style? Give a solid example of this style from your own experiences.
From personal experience, my procrastination style is the crisis maker. While I always deliver on a project, most of my work is often done in the last few moments before the deadline. It is not because I cannot do the task at an earlier time, but rather, I often lack the motivation to finish before the deadline. This procrastination style is perfect for me as it clearly explains the process I go through once I undertake a task.
First, in the beginning, I am often motivated and clock many hours to see through the task. Take an example of an assignment due at the end of the semester. In the beginning, I start the assignment earlier so to clear my schedule. However, as time passes, I usually get involved in other activities that require my optimal concentration. Some of the events are recreational while some are academic
As a result, I find myself switching my focus to a new endeavor and abandon my original goal. This process loops until when the project is almost due. At that time, the pressure is high, and I get back the drive to finish the assignment before the deadline. In conclusion, my experiences suggest that I am a crisis maker. I can only get motivated when the pressure is high, and hence my procrastination attitude.
- What strategies do you plan to use to combat your procrastination? Why do you think these will be effective?
Procrastination is a bad practice. While I can get away with my procrastination attitude at times, some situations often lead to unforeseen consequences. For example, when multiple projects are due at the same time. As such, I have various strategies to help mitigate my procrastination attitude. First, I need to have a change of mindset. Primarily, I need to find unique factors in each task that can make me motivated when working on the task. For example, I will set goals to achieve within the allocated period. Case in point, to complete 75% of the task before engaging in other activities.
Second, I plan to discover my biggest distractions and find ways to eliminate them. This step aligns with my goals. For example, I can set a goal that I am only allowed to use a particular social app only if I complete my task for the day. As such, I can use my distractions as a motivating factor. Since I can’t abandon them thoroughly, then the best option is to find how to use distractions to make myself more productive.
Third, I need to improve my lifestyle factors. This includes living a healthier lifestyle and only engaging in positive activities. For example, I plan to keep track of my time to avoid activities that waste my time. Also, I will use a productivity app to keep track of my multiple tasks. I think these strategies will be effective as they will help me create a balance and manager in different aspects of my life. Mainly, I will develop a better mindset that will help me overcome my procrastination attitude. As a result, I will become a more productive member of society.
