- The difference between Malcolm X’s learning and Typical learning
There is no such kind of struggle and strain in typical learning like the ones Malcolm X went through. The thirst for knowledge has never been to that extent in the recent past or even currently. Learning to read involves a teacher or a parent at home who guides a child on reading. Children are taken to school and taught to read using approved textbooks at their levels. Reading and writing are processes that need dedication and guidance and can never be achieved in a lonely situation. Malcolm X’s learning is one of the toughest since it is contrary to the expected learning process, as evident in the current society or the recent past society. A learning process that is marred with lots of challenges, including the learning environment, is a prison instead of the usual schools used for learning purposes.
- “In fact, up to then, I never had been so truly free in my life” (par. 11) and its effects on me; reader.
The writer emphasizes this statement to show how he has been engaged in reading since he knew how to read when he was absorbed in the teachings. Malcolm X states how he was entirely absorbed in reading to the extent of appearing a busy man who has strong relationships with the library than anything else. This view affects the reader by showing how reading can be made possible in every part of the country, precisely, everywhere a person is. Reading has no limitation on a place or age to begin. The beginning is the problem getting absorbed in the reading and making it a routine, as Malcolm X did. The statement also intrigues and tries to install a reading interest in the reader’s mind.
- How vital reading is to students in school today…
Reading is not the most critical skill for students in school today. This is because most students in school today need to learn writing and part of reading skills that can enable them to get grades and move away. The most important aspect of education today has been made to be the certificates rather than the reading skills for proper research on topics and issues that can spearhead development in the future. To my understanding, the credentials obtained from grades to have overtaken the priority that reading was previously given in Malcolm X. I am still on the skill of reading to be given priority, among other skills in school, because this is the eye-opener. Reading can unlock many opportunities by disclosing and innovating different essential ideas that are useful.
- Levels of my reading experience so far.
My reading experience has been on a gradual tread. A series of improvements since I began developing this culture. Reading is adopted by trying and getting persuasion from the read books, especially when the reading culture wasn’t installed in me at my younger age. Parents have an excellent opportunity of raising a reading child I can attest out of my readings. I have found a lot of pleasure in reading and the best way to get important news that grows the mind and builds my reasoning ability. Challenges are inevitable for someone like me who never had a healthy reading culture before; someone who never embraced a lot of readings for quenching the thirst of knowledge. The challenge I currently face is rereading some chapters while reading due to inadequate comprehension while scheming or doing the first reading. Also, the Problem of speed reading as well as a challenge to my reading skills.
