Amelia conquers her fear

Amelia was a 4-year-old girl. She had blue beautiful blue eyes like the ocean. Her mum and dad, Mrs. and Mr. Martin, loved Amelia very much. She was very playful from a young age, and her parents noticed her love for bikes. She always smiled and laughed when she saw motorbikes on the television. Her father was also a fan of motorcycles and had his garage filled with fast bikes and his car. Amelia always followed her father to the garage to help out. Once in a while, daddy would take his little girl on a ride to the beach on his bike. He even named it after Amelia. You could tell Mr. Martin loved Amelia, and his wife loved watching them play in the garage.

Most girls Amelia’s age would be playing with dolls but not Amelia. She loved bikes and always told her parents, “Mummy, daddy I want bike to play with.” On her 3rd birthday, her parents got her a remote-control bike toy that she loved. Amelia was always curious and would always try to ask what different parts of the bikes were. She loved to learn new things, and ever her teachers back at school noted that. It followed that on her 4th birthday, Amelia got a pretty pink bike with a small basket at the front for all her toys.

The bike was her size, and she wanted to take it out to her friends after she got it. Her parents loved that she was responsible. Amelia being very active she most of the time would fall and hurt herself. She would cry and run back home, but the next day she would take her bike ready to learn again. Within some weeks, she had already gotten good at riding the bike; she would circle the house. She could not go too far because her parents did not think she was ready yet.

As Amelia grew, so did her teeth. Mr. and Mrs. Martin noticed that their little girl’s teeth were becoming a bit crooked. They called the dentist to ask one day to ask what was the issue was. Amelia never liked the hospital or clinic, she was always afraid of needles and all the sharp objects the dentist had. The dentist told her parents that her teeth would be alright since she was still growing. After a few months, they noticed that the dentist was right, and her teeth were looking okay. So Amelia escaped the gruesome trip to the dentist’s office.

Amelia did not like hospitals because she assumed everyone there got an injection for their illness. She didn’t want to get an injection, and those were very painful. The cartoons she watched sometimes would show kids her age crying when going to the dentist. There was always a mean doctor who wanted to take all their teeth. That is what Amelia thought of the dentist’s office. Her parents told her that the doctors were lovely people and loved kids like her.

Amelia would always answer, “No mummy and daddy! I don’t  want to go to the dentist, I don’t want to get the needle!. ”

Amelia was now almost five, and her teeth started shaking. This meant that it was time for her to grow her permanent teeth. One milk tooth gone meant another permanent one would grow. Her mother tried to tell her they needed to go to see the dentist. Amelia would scream and run off to her room to cry. She did not want pain or the “painful needle.” Her father tried to get her to go by promising to buy her favorite cake, but Amelia did not budge.

One sunny afternoon Amelia met up with her pals who liked to ride bikes together. Her dad took her and sat and watched her playing in the kid’s playground. Amelia was always competitive and wanted her father to see her winning. Amelia kept calling, “Look Daddy!! Look am faster than all the girls”. Mr. Martin would say, “My angel please be careful, you don’t want to fall.”

A few minutes later, Amelia fell off her bike, hit her mouth against a swing, and started bleeding. Her tooth that was shaking got broken, and she was bleeding. Her father ran to her and picked her up. “So sorry dear, thats why we always have to be careful around bikes!” he said, getting her into the car. He was driving fast to get to the hospital and called his wife to tell her what happened. Amelia was crying so much; her tooth kept bleeding.

They arrived at the hospital, and a nurse quickly rushed to him to ask what had happened. Amelia would not stop crying and saying, “NOOO, DADDY PLEASE TAKE ME HOME!!” She was shouting so loudly that everyone turned to look. Just then, Mrs. Martin got into the hospital and went calm her down.

“There there my little angel, it will be alright, mummy is here now,” said Mrs. Martin.

A nice tall lady dressed in a white coat walked to Amelia. This was the dentist. Her name was Doctor Alison. Amelia was scared and started crying. “NOO, IM OKAY NOW! I DON’T WANT THE DOCTOR, BAD”. Doctor Alison loved kids and always had a way of making them smile. She took a doll from her pocket and a lollipop and gave it to Amelia. Amelia had stopped bleeding and stopped crying. She took the candy and the toy happily.

“Come my little one, I wanna tell you about a story about the tooth fairy,” said Doctor Alison. Amelia jumped from her dad’s lap, took the doctor’s hand, and walked to her office. She loved stories. Her parents followed behind glad that their angel was not crying anymore.

“Once upon a time there was a small fairy who loved kids. She was called Rose. Rose would always watch as kids would lose their teeth and it made her very sad. She then decided that every time a kid lost a tooth, their parents would take the tooth and place it under the pillow while they slept at night. Rose would then come in the night as the kids were deep asleep and place candy and some money under the pillow. The kids would wake up the next morning smiling and that made Rose happy,”

Amelia’s face grew happy; she said, “Doctor, can you take my aching tooth so that I also can get some candy and money from the fairy.” Doctor Alison said, “Yes, my pretty girl and mummy and daddy can be there to hold your hand as I remove the tooth. Don’t worry I will not hurt you. It will be very fast I just need to put medicine in your mouth so that you don’t feel any pain.”

“Doctor you really pretty and you are nice, I like you. You are my new friend, “said Amelia. Doctor Alison and her parents laughed. They were all happy; she was calm and ready to lose her tooth. Her parents held her arm and said: “we are here darling, nothing bad will happen.”

The doctor took out her needle and injected Amelia with medicine. Amelia closed her eyes and thought of how the fairy would come to her room and give her candy afterward. Just like that, the tooth was out, and she didn’t feel any pain. She just had to rinse her mouth and not eat anything yet till the bleeding stopped.

Amelia had faced her fear of the dentist and loved that Doctor Alison was friendly to her. She couldn’t wait to get back home and place her tooth under the pillow. As she slept that night, she prayed that the fairy would visit her room.

The next morning she woke up and checked under her pillow. “Mummy, daddy come and see the fairy took my tooth, she left some money under my pillow. The doctor right!” said Amelia. Her parents all smiled and were happy that their little angel was not afraid of the doctors anymore.
