The quality of education
The quality of education in grades k-12 could be improved by investing in training teachers and district leaders. The quality of the teachers that teach children is crucial to success. America has not invested in educators training as it has invested in training lawyers and doctors. That means that even the best education program might produce an old hand teacher. The quality of the school and district leaders needs to be improved too. The leaders work with teachers to enhance their teaching and work with the principals to assist in supporting teachers. Training them will, therefore, go a long way to ensuring effectiveness in the learning sector.
K-12 education also needs to be thought of in terms of tradeoffs and not absolutes. Children are considered to learn better in small classes rather than big ones. Reducing the size of the class is however expensive since more classrooms and teachers are required. In addition to this, it is costly to extend the school year. Moreover, during summer vacation, children from less affluent backgrounds fall behind since they are not involved in enriching activities that other children from wealthy families are involved in. Also, only a few public school systems have the resources to reduce the class size and extend the school year. Therefore, the best option is to prolong the school year and compensate for it by having bigger classes. That leads to a more significant positive effect of being in school for more days than the negative outcome of having larger classes. The education system ought to consider these tradeoffs.
Families should also be involved early in education. If early childhood education is well conducted, it leads to the achievement of kids in the long term. Programs that have succeeded are family and relatives need to contribute to the learning of children. That will benefit the children even in their high school education.
