                                                                            Analysis

Romeo and Juliet Fantasy-overture was composed and released by Pyotr Tchaikovsky in 1870 and continues to be used as a concert and romantic piece today (Tchaikovsky Research, 2020). The work uses Shakespeare’s story “Romeo and Juliet,” but doesn’t follow the original plot. Instead, Tchaikovsky integrates different characters and emotions, which builds a distinct musical contrast. For instance, the piece opens with a romantic clarinet rhythm, switches to a chaotic theme in the middle, and later introduces a love theme portrayed by the main characters Romeo and Juliet. Towards the end, both romance and violence share the stage, depicting tenacity until the rhythm is trumped by a minor key. The later signifies the tragic death of the lovers. Tchaikovsky’s work is a masterpiece and it Is frequently used in contemporary artworks like romantic scenes in films. Also, the integration of various characters and moods defines the instinctive capability and masterly of the artist.
