Narrative Response: What makes Narratives Unique?
An aspect I found interesting about the narratives is their ability to create a “truth” in explaining various world aspects. Around the world, numerous elements remain a mystery since no scientific proof exists to explain these phenomena; a good example is how the world came into existence. Narratives alternatively provide a powerful tool in explaining these mysteries through creating a “truth.”
Various communities have various narratives justifying their cultural practices and norms. These narratives are passed down from generation to generation as ‘truths. ’The Jewish story is one of the most widely adopted narratives due to its ability to explain various world mysteries. The Jewish narrative, mostly told and believed by Christians, presents the world chronologies through the biblical stories as “truths.” Besides this, the “truth” created by these narratives is a basis for other religious beliefs; this is because most religious stories closely relate to the Jewish tale.
Additionally, “truths,” similar to “facts,” are told regardless of how one interprets them; this aspect makes these “truths” powerful since they depend on faith, trust, and belief. Without faith, trust, and belief, narratives would be another fictional story. Compared to other works of literature, therefore, narratives are unique in that they develop a ‘belief’ in a “truth” despite the lack of any empirical proof.
