Qualitative methodology 100
Qualitative analysis involves analyzing non-numerical data like the feelings, attitudes, opinion etc. (Ohman A.,2005) to make a conclusive decision. In data visualization, one can use qualitative analysis to understand how data literate people are. Understanding data literacy level in terms of numeric is almost impossible. So, the qualitative methodology can be applied to compare the performance of different people as a measure of their literacy. Another example where qualitative analysis can be used in data visualization and literacy is in investigating the correlation between data visualization and data literacy. The relationship can be analyzed through the comparison of various visualization methods and their impact on data literacy. The investigation can be done through qualitative analysis methodology whereby the researcher conducts interview or observation in businesses where data visualization is being implemented and compare the results to where it is not.
Quantitative methodology
Qualitative research method, on the other hand, uses numerical analysis to measure the variables being tested to come up with a conclusion. I.e. To prove or disprove a claim. In data visualization and its application in business intelligence, one can be interested in finding out how the performance of the business improved since the company started using data visualization. The performance can be measured in terms of units of production or the cost of production. All these are numerical data which numerical analysis can be used to get a clear fact. Such research will heavily apply qualitative analysis to come up with the required conclusion.
Design research methodology
Design research methodology (DRM) is a framework that offers guidelines to be used in research to make the research process more effective and efficient. The method is divided into Research clarification, Descriptive study I, Prescriptive study, and Descriptive study II. The process of analyzing the performance of a business can be tricky and require a systematic approach. The researcher will be needed to adapt at least one method that can act as guidance in the process of conducting the research. DRM is one of the techniques that can be used when investigating the relationship between business intelligence, data visualization, data literacy and business performance. Another example where the DRM can be applied is when categorizing the areas where the employees are not performing well in understanding data or areas where data visualization can be used or not.
