Professional Capstone and Practicum Reflective Journal
Several complexities and challenges characterize the work environment for nurses. Hence, the knowledge and practical experiences that I have learned have enabled me to face and overcome these healthcare systems’ challenges to deliver services to patients (Campbell et al., 2014). Therefore, my experience in dealing with patients suffering from Catheter-associated Urinary tract infection has allowed me to sharpen my leadership and professional skills.
Ethical Consideration in Healthcare
The major challenge that nurses face is the struggle with the ethical challenges associated with patient care. When dealing with UTI patients, several ethical problems may arise, requiring deep moral questions (Morison et al., 2013). I have learned the importance of comprehending the ethical culture in healthcare.
New Practice Approaches
The nursing profession in the last decades has undergone significant changes. Therefore, as an upcoming nurse, I have learned to adjust to these changes to remain relevant to provide quality services to patients. For instance, the constant use of evidence-based nursing practices has been of great assistance in dealing with patients, especially CUTI patients.
Interprofessional Collaboration
Nursing tasks are multifaceted, complex, and burdensome, making it hard to accomplish the required goals by oneself. It calls for the input of many people to solve a single problem, and these people are from different areas of specialty. The most crucial learning experience that I have learned is interprofessional collaboration. For example, interprofessional collaboration goes far beyond the practical healthcare system, including the educational contexts.
Healthcare Delivery and Clinical system
Individual-centered and integrated healthcare services are crucial for reaching universal healthcare coverage. Therefore, I have learned that for healthcare to provide optimal healthcare services to patients, they must have beneficial and high-quality health care and clinical services effectively coordinated within a robust public healthcare system.
Providing Culturally Sensitive Care and Integrity
A nurse needs to provide culturally sensitive care to patients. Therefore, as a nurse, I have learned how to enhance my ability to provide patient-centered care, reflecting the patient’s culture, beliefs, and values. By doing this, I will have protected the integrity of the patient. I must understand how bio-psychosocial cultural background relates to the needs of healthcare.
Population
The emphasis and scope of healthcare programs are mostly influenced by the changing features of its serving population. Population range affects long-range planning of public and medical health facilities. Therefore, as a nurse, I must learn how the population dynamics changing to improve and my skills to know which population I affected the most.
Role of Technology in Improving Healthcare Outcomes
Technology has been of great advantage in improving healthcare outcomes by providing communication between nurses, reducing medical errors, and improving medication safety (Meena & Bhattacharya, n,d). Additionally, using the right technology helps in encouraging patient-centered care, reduce costs, and improve efficiency.
Health Care Policy Information
Healthcare policy outlines the roles and priorities expected on various groups, inform people, and creating a consensus. Hence, I have learned that an explicit health policy information can help me achieve several things and sharpen my future, establishing goals both short and long term.
Health Disparities
A nurse has to ensure that health services are accessible to all patients; hence, the health equity agenda has faced numerous challenges. For example, racial discrimination that black people face in their effort to access health services. Therefore, the health care system should establish measures to reduce these inequalities in healthcare services.
