Successful treatment plan
My treatment model, as stated, is a disease model that seemingly takes away the blame form the patient, but it also places the responsibility of recovery to the patient. Therefore the patients will know it is their will to recover that will make the process easier and successful. MET is an evidence-based model that will help illicit motivation in a client to help with behavior change (Clarke et al. 2013). The next phase will be the anonymous alcoholics’ meetings and the twelve-step facilitation therapy, which will be combined with the individual sessions to analyses the progress. Addiction and recovery can be a lonely journey, and the AA meetings are supportive of those lacking a support system and those with heavy drinking social backgrounds.
The phases of treatment will include cognitive behavioral therapy sessions to help them recognize and cope with high-risk triggers to relapse. CBT helps identify self-harming thoughts and behaviors and guide patients to understand and practice the ability of alternative thinking and regulate stress and harmful thoughts. As most alcohol addicts often have dual diagnosis Cognitive Behavioral Therapy will also address behavior change to reduce any other disorder. CBT has one of the most effective and practical therapies for addiction. Although the treatment, especially the individual sessions, the counselor will document the process, and the patient will have homework planners where there exercise the plans we come up with. It could be ways to exercise controlling anxiety or alcohol cravings. Accountability and documentation are crucial in the treatment of any addiction for future use (Jongsma, 2016).
Issues in treatment.
Like many other countries, like is a huge obstacle to treatment for drug addicts creating a treatment gap. One of the treatment obstacles I can anticipate is stigma. Although the misguided notion that addicts have a moral failure of individual weakness and lack of will power is changing, there are people in the community who still stigmatize addicts. The stigma is heightened by a lack of knowledge by some people. Since they believe it’s a choice addict, make they do not believe in recovery. They believe that recovery is impossible, and the addicts will live a life controlled by alcohol or substance abused. Perpetual willingness can also be an obstacle to treatment. Recovering from addiction can be tough; hence many addicts lose the desire and motivation to see through the process.
To ensure a successful treatment plan ethical issues have to be anticipated and prepared for. Confidentiality has to be observed. All medical records and the information disclosed by the patient’s physicians and the patients have to be kept private. I have to prepare to advise the patients about keeping secret all information discussed during the group therapy. As a professional, I will need to be professional and preserve my integrity all through the treatment. Integrity includes appropriate and honest communication with the patients, friendly and professional relationship. I will also endure that every person involved in my treatment plan has the right credentials to avoid ethical and legal issues (Remley et al. 2014). Comorbidity is not a rare condition for alcohol addicts. To screen for comorbidity, I will use informal verbal screening. To address comorbidity, I will integrate cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational and recovery therapy methods. The integrated treatment has been found more effective as compared to separate treatment. Some common comorbidities that I may discover include anxiety, depression disorders. My target population is in an age that has so many of their peer’s binge drinking, caring about friendships, and doing drugs. For the plan to work, we will have to establish a relationship where we trust each other so that I can help them overcome the many barriers to recovery they will meet.
