Evidence-based treatments

Evidence-based treatments by counsellors are treatments or therapies that have been researched on, used and have had successful outcomes in peer-reviewed scientific experiments with patients. The incorporation of research into counselling’s practice through evidence-based methods helps integrate the elements of practice, clinical experience, and practical treatment strategies to treat patient’s complex difficulties they bring to therapy. Research is a fundamental factor that guides counsellors in their decision making processes to effectively choose the evidence-based treatment to be used for their clients. Research on evidence-based method in psychology continues to be a priority as some methods are proven unreliable and others reliable. Mental illnesses are complex conditions hence the need for continued research whether to develop new evidence methods or to choose one over the other in treatment.

Qualitative and quantitative research methods have different roles when carrying research. The methods are used according to the desired results or objectives of the research. However, the integration of the two- mixed-methods- gives a more comprehensive outcome. Similarly integrating and exploring both qualitative and quantitative research reports will help guide when making a decision for evidence-based methods. Decision making is a multifaceted process. Quantitative research reports help a counsellor understand the methods (Evidence-Based) way of approaching the complex relations between the patient and themselves, therapists, counselling process, counselling outcome and the follow-up period. Quantitative data will help me as a counsellor evaluate the theoretical aspect of every method before making a final decision. To mend the gap that there is in therapy between science and practice, I will then use qualitative data to complement my findings from quantitative records of each method. The qualitative research report will offer a descriptive aspect of approaches concerning approach phenomenon’s that can be observed or told but cannot be measured (Edmonds et al., 2016.) Through qualitative research reports, a counsellor gets the opinions of experts and clients involved in peer-reviewed scientific experiments and trials of different approaches. Understanding the aspects of varying evidence-based methods puts a counsellor in a better position to make a decision for the most optimal approach for a patient.

In Writing and publication of psychological researches, the conciseness, preciseness, and significance of the study must be taken into utmost consideration. This determines what method and procedure are to be conducted to perform and make the research a success. In Writing and publication of psychological analyses Writing and publication of psychological researchers, take an approach knowledge psychologically. Psychologists use systematic approaches to study human behaviour; hence their researchers should contain probabilistic claims and not state absolute fact about human behaviour. The thesis of Writing and publication should be consciously and thoroughly supported by reliable and valid evidence. The thesis makes it more accessible during decision making to easily search the material that is closer to ones search Psychology is an empirical filed hence required documented evidence as opposed to personal opinions. Writing should be supported by either quantitative or qualitative data. The sources used in Writing and publication of the research is ethically and accurately documented. Writers in psychological research use the America psychological Association manual for referencing and citation to allow them to document the most significant sources in their study consistently. During decision making, readers, counsellors or psychologists can then have a valid reference to refer to in case they need more clarification on a specific matter in the publication.

Preciseness covers the clarity and brevity expected in the language of writings and publications of psychological researches. The writings are clear of overly descriptive language and literal devices. The precise and direct language, later on, helps decision-making easier because the study elaborated its significance concisely and accurately where the reader or someone who views the research doesn’t get bored and tired reading the content. Clarity also reduces time spent on reading. Instead, time would be used for rationalizing and analysis. The precise language also helps clients to do research on their own and understand more about their conditions or they loved ones.

Among the many roles of a counsellor is to treat mental illness from a strength-based approach and emphasis on clients improvement. For my diagnosis, I will select generalized anxiety disorder and explain how research can help to assist in treatment. Generalized anxiety disorder can occur at any stage in life exhibiting similar symptoms to panic, obsessive-compulsive disorder, among other anxiety disorders. Generalized anxiety disorder is commonly characterized by extreme worry about several things. Patients anticipate disastrous outcomes and are excessively concerned about health, relationships, family education and find it hard to control the worrying. It is essential to understand the causes and severity of the disorder to come up with an effective treatment plan for a client. Generalized anxiety Understanding different treatments plan will help me develop an effective plan depending on the symptoms the client is exhibiting. I can use the criteria published by the American Psychiatric Association regarding the statistical diagnostic manual for a generalized anxiety disorder to understand the severity of the illness (Kehoe, 2017).

Researching different treatment plans on Generalized Anxiety Disorder will help me understand the outcomes of a different method. Depending on the goals the treatment set by my client and I, as the counsellor i can then choose the best treatment plan. Research results give the evidence and outcomes of combining medication and counselling for different cases. In counselling, different clients need only therapy others need both therapy and medication (Kehoe, 2017). By doing research and understanding different case study results, I can determine whether the extent of the disorder needs medication or therapy will suffice. Research has different evidence-based guidelines used in Generalized Anxiety disorder. I would use the literature from all research records showing the interpreted data drawing conclusions based on the method’s effectiveness, risks of hostile effects, stated tolerability drug-diseases, and drug-drug interaction. Research would offer me with the sequence steps and suggestion for treating generalized anxiety disorder. From the precise study, I would also find commonalities and a spectrum of different options for every possible step in treating the illness.
