In life, I have understood the need for remaining objective and working towards a purpose. I brought the same ideology of goal setting in this course. Consequently, I have learned the advantage of staying competent throughout the beginning of the coursework to the end. The term has raised the bar in the application of knowledge to practice. At the beginning of the course, I had stipulated personal goals that would help improve my grade and enhance overall academic performance. These goals would offer a comprehensive approach from the start of the course. I was to align these personal goals to the management of the course. I realized that time is always a limiting factor, and failure to have a proper plan would contribute towards unprecedented lags.

My first goal entailed an immediate review of the lecture materials post-lecture for at least three times a week using Gibbs’ (1988) Model. I would conduct the study of the learning materials to further the understanding of the content taught. Using the Gibbs Reflective Model, I would be able to increase the subject’s self-awareness through evidence-based practice. I would meet this goal by reviewing the materials after one-day after attending the lecture. I would do this to prevent workload significantly when revising for the exams and weekly assignments.

The second, which was instrumental for my success in the term, entailed working collaboratively with the instructor and other students to facilitate understanding course content each Friday. I met this goal by allocating time for this team collaboration. After reviewing the lecture materials, I will note down any content which I did not understand. I would conduct further research and seek clarification from my fellow students and the tutor. I would find the approach important in offsetting the accumulated classwork.

My third goal entails conducting additional research. My success in the term would be based on conducting purposive research. I would dedicate 2 hours daily from Monday to Friday to conduct this research. The goal would be instrumental in ensuring that I have allocated considerable time to further my understanding of the subject. Learning through research would play a critical role in facilitating my comprehension and boosting my confidence. My learning ideology did not involve cramming of the issue but rather conceptualization, which would be instrumental not only for the passing of the exams but also in future clinical experience.

These goals would help me achieve my course target right from the start of the first assignment to the end of the term. My motivation for success is attributable to both time management and prioritization of the tasks. Most nursing students are involved in a work-study arrangement and may find it challenging to attain the delicate balance. According to the study done by Doody et al. (2012), nurses’ ability to learn and advance the nursing practice can be done through reflection. This is one of the skills developed during education and can play a role in overall success, whether at school or work.
