The policy is a course of action adopted by an organization to meet its goal. Nike employs the policies on hiring, recruitment, health, training, welfare and safety. EEO and Affirmative Action Compliance Criteria
Nike promotes employees right to freedom of association, forbids forced labour, provision of a fairground for its employees and clients free from discrimination and ensuring gender equality. Equal employment opportunity (EEO) refers to a situation where an employer chose not to discriminate against any job applicant or employees on the based on colour, sex, age, race, disability, nationality or religion (Dovidio & Gaertner, 1996).
Affirmative action plans refer to the standards used by an employer to proactively hire, recruit, disabled individuals, minorities and women promotion. Affirmative action is seen as a moral to change historical injustices, social obligation, and to end discrimination committed in the past (Jones, 1997). Nike Company has achieved affirmative action plans by recruiting more women. Majority of workers who are engaged in the production of footwear and apparel are women. Majority of whom have unique vulnerability since they are at risk of abuse and exploitation as compared to their male counterparts.
These risks are highly recognized by the organization and specific standards have been stipulated to protect women. Some of the requirements for suppliers in the organization include, prohibition of forced use of contraception, or discrimination on pregnancy testing, maternity benefits provision, and safe working environment in connection to pregnancy, the birth of the child and nursing and equal pay for equal work.
In conclusion, Nike has been on the forefront in the implementation of its policies hence creating conducive environment for its employees, ensuring fair remuneration and compensation, empowering the vulnerable population and ensuring equal pay for equal work. However, these policies have not been fully implemented hence a lot needs to be done.
