Visual Communication in Media
Information Text
Carol (Cultural Differences)
There are significant minority populations in locations where the healthcare facilities are situated. Further, the populace also includes disabled and elderly persons who have to be attracted to the institutions. Therefore, the images incorporated in the website have to match the diversity of staff and patients (Jackson & Gracia, 2014). If the site contained only images of minorities, it could potentially drive away other demographics, thereby inhibiting its effectiveness.

Technically, almost everyone has families elsewhere who need medical services. However, family patterns differ across cultures, races, and other demographics. For instance, there are families where teenagers look after the elderly and others where grandparents raise kids. For effectiveness, the website needs to include images of different family types and single patients who visit the facilities without their kin. The website must be appealing to individuals who could develop an inner connection to the images.

Not everyone in the community resides near parks or mountains. Also, some patients have underlying conditions that prevent them from enjoying the sun (Hoel, Berwick, Gruijl, & Holickd, 2016). The website should be welcoming for people, but not at the expense of those who can’t enjoy the outdoors. For instance, if an individual thinks the hospitals treat people in gardens, they might associate it with alternative medicine. Therefore, the images on the website should show the institution is inviting and comfortable.

Communities need to know a facility is clean and has a diverse staff. Images of all-white nurses might not attract patients from minority groups. In particular, foreign-born individuals might feel that their communication wouldn’t be satisfied with such an institution.

Sharing images of patients being handled by hospital staff will symbolize “being in good hands.” Explicitly, the website must contain images that depict calmness and generate hopeful emotions. The regions served by the institutions house veterans and persons with disabilities who require comfort and proper care. Therefore, the images should depict that the hospitals can take good care of such populations. The website should also contain pictures of community health from the staff, to attract those living below the poverty line.
