Girl experience in the Lowell textile mills
Lowell Massachusetts was a textile mill that was notable for its production and how it had employed large numbers of women, some young and unmarried, but their efforts were underpaid. They tried to unsuccessful strike .this mill was an employment option due to large families who had needs that couldn’t be satisfied by scarce land.
Lowell mills had in-built dorms, recreation opportunities, strict moral codes; all this was not only a luxury but also an excuse to lower women’s pay. Women were doing the same tasks and duties with men who were paid more but in a natural environment.
Lowering the cotton price made the situation so worse because of pay cuts and higher results v. Women united and went on strike, what followed was a replacement as laborers were available as people, especially women, had migrated from a less economic opportunity like farms. Women who rebelled or were not satisfied would leave and get replaced. This spirit of mistreating women would spread to other Mills like Lynn shoe binders.
Technological advancements in both farm and production didn’t bring positive change in the mill; instead, it accompanied rising inequality and stagnant wages. People were readily available to take a small salary and offer their services.
In conclusion, women affiliated with the mill .were not treated well, and they experienced a lot of inequality in terms of wages despite perfuming the same tasks with men women received less. Their efforts to more excellent outputs were all underpaid. This spirit spread to other mills in society, and their peers started experiencing the same.
