The war between Mexican and American in the year 1846 patented the first conflict that the US has ever fought on foreign land. The battle pitted a political divide. When Texas gained independence from Mexico, the US had initially declined to incorporate the country into a union. The reason behind that was caused by the northern political interest going against the addition of a new slave nation. Also, at that time, the Mexican government was encouraging raid s in the boarders and warned that any attempt to the annexation would start a war. Nonetheless, seizures were quickly enacted after the election of Polk. The latter campaigned that Texas needed to be re-seizure and territory of Oregon re-captured.

In the 19th century, America was on its move to rapid expansion as it had purchased the territory of Louisiana and seizure Texas. The country had more chances to add more land. I take stand that the US was not justified to go on war with the Mexican. First, America had grabbed more land, and hence it was powerful, politically driven. As such, it was not okay to take advantage of the weak. The US unfairly provoked the start of the conflict. The Mexican lost Texas to the US once Polk became the nation’s leader and had a strong belief in the manifest destiny. In that way, he was prepared to take significant measures to see it fulfilled. Using trickery, Polk sent American troops were commanded to go disputed, and this purposely angered the Mexicans. Mexican strongly believed the land was theirs, and hence the US move was nothing but an invasion.

Arguing from the American standpoint, the country needed to expand and had many needs due to pressure from the high population growth rate. The population in the US was increasing due to birth and immigration, and this created need to expand territories to accommodate the pressure. Also, the country had suffered from economic depressions that drove individuals to seek dwelling in the frontier areas as the land was inexpensive. Expansion into the frontier land paved the way to advantages like people’s self-advancement that prompted economic growth.

Americans provoked the Mexican army and claimed that the Mexicans were invading their territory. When the latter responded to the threat, the US used claims as casus belli. Mexico was by far weak to the US, and hence the approach by Americans to stir a war was seen as bloodshed and abuse. People like Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass supported that the act of war was wrong. The conflict destroyed families, caused massive migration, and caused racial conflict that exists even today. As opposed to the US greed motives, Mexican did not declare war on the US, but instead, they needed to defend their territory and its integrity. What Mexican deed was to fend off the invasion from the US, and thus, from a Mexican perspective, the war was not driven by greed to expand land, arrogance, or the need to stabilize the economy. As such, the Mexicans would call this conflict as the American war against Mexico. The Mexican government wanted to maintain negotiable dialogues with the US leader, as stated by before Texas annexation. The latter was not acceptable for legal and security purposes, according to the Mexican, as that was termed a violation of the border treaty of 1828.
