War propaganda discussion
War, in many instances, brews hatred and disagreements on the course of action undertaken by the perpetrators. However, despite these mishaps impeding the morale and support of the people at home, some jurisdictions have been able to fend this off by generating propaganda that serves to rally the country or state against the perceived enemy. Consequently, this paper seeks to discuss the propaganda propagated during World War 2 in the period 1942 in the united states. Additionally, the excerpt will analyze propaganda outlined and determine the themes and concepts of the posters.
The posters outlined depict an American society determined to change the ways of living to ensure that soldiers who went to war after the attack on Pearl Harbor had enough supplies support staff and ammunition. In the poster, the author denotes that during the war, there were many posters to ensure the effectiveness of the course. The posters generated propaganda that was in line with the country’s needs and supplies during the war. For instance, in a poster, a ship was depicted to be drowning with the words” loose mouths sink mighty ships “embraced patriotism ( Horne). In the poster, the propagandist likely intended to deter the citizens from speaking unnecessarily of the country’s strategies to unknown individuals.
The action was informed by growth in the number of spies that leaders attributed to the increasing conflict and need for rivals’ strategies to topple the formation. The other poster with the same concept included a woman with a man and the latter being advised to embrace secrecy in a bid to show patriotism to the country. The picture was themed on nationalism to the country through which it would win then war after non-disclosure.
Other corresponding picture includes a man in a convertible not carpooling as riding with Hitler. Indeed the propaganda employed scare or fear on the citizen to gain nationalism in reducing resources such as fuel utilized at home at the expense of personnel and equipment at war. The propaganda denoted that blatant refusal to adhere to carpooling measures meant that the specified individual was a friend or supporter of Hitler. In the picture, the author describes the image portrayed as one with a nationalist call to preserve the resources for the soldiers sent to combat enemies on the battlefront. Symbolic iconography was also employed on the picture through discoloring of the image of Hitler, which meant that the accusation was somewhat symbolic, and would not necessitate a friendship between Hitler and the self car occupant.
The picture denoting a nurse calling out for more individuals to join the Red Cross is a nationalist call for more individuals to join the course. Although from the post, only the female gender was found favorable to occupy the position that required the person to be able to attend to patients‘ needs in treatment centers. The post mainly focused on the ability of the female gender to practice empathy during dire situations as well as during the treatment of bodily injuries that may be debilitating. All the propaganda pictures denoted above made it possible to instill feelings of negativity to the opposing side, enabling the progression of a rallying call towards togetherness and nationalism in winning the war. In conclusion, it is evident that propaganda functions in various ways to rally opposing sides not actively involved in supporting the course.
