Introduction
Waste management is a topic that continues to attract attention in the modern world. The needs of the global population have been increasing at an alarming rate. Due to increased need, production is increasing. In the process of production, there is the elimination of waste materials. Most of the waste materials can affect the lives of people adversely if they are not well managed. Different strategies and methods are at the disposal of organizations that care for the well-being of the population’s health. In this respect, it becomes essential to note that there is a close connection between the health of a person and the waste management strategies of a given organization. The research will be exploring the strategies that would be effective when employed to deal with the issue of waste management.
Strategies for solving industrial waste-related problems
Waste related problems continue to affect different populations in the world. However, there are strategies in place that organizations, populations, and the government can implement to deal with the menace once and for all (Hossain & Poon, 2018). Importantly, stakeholders must know that the initiative of dealing with waste-related problems does not belong to one party or stakeholder; it is an initiative that is supposed to bring all parties together for the common good (Nordahl et al. 2020). The strategies of dealing with waste-related issues can be divided into three different sections;
- Organizational strategies
Organizational strategies comprise the initiatives that an organization should put in place to deal with waste management. Organizations are the major polluters of the environment, and that means that if they are keen, they are likely to help solve the problem of waste management (Nordahl et al. 2020). First, an organization should desist from disposing of waste without the consideration of the well-being of the neighboring population. Some organizations dispose of their wastes in rivers and lakes. As a result, plants and animals die. The second strategy that an organization should put in place is to draft an organizational policy against the pollution of the environment. Managers and employees who fail to submit to the rules in place should carry their burden in the case of any legal consequence.
- Individuals’ strategies
Creating awareness among members of society is a strategy that will help to deal with waste management issues. Individuals have a responsibility to ensure that they act according to the environmental policies in place. Some of the people who do not care about where they do not know how their actions affect the general population (Hossain & Poon, 2018). Community programs have proven effective when it comes to communicating an important message with the public’s members.
- Government strategies
The government has the upper hand when it comes to dealing with the issues that affect its citizens. Government strategies can be divided into two categories. The first category pertains to the aspect of implementing policies. It is within the government’s mandate to constitute policies that protect people from the harm of poor waste management strategies (Hossain & Poon, 2018). The government should implement laws that are strict. The second category of strategies pertains to the enforcement of the laws that are in place. The government has laid down laws that people ought to submit to. However, there are weak organs that have made it a challenge for people to obey the laws to the fully (Nordahl et al. 2020). One of the reasons why some organizations do not fear polluting the environment is that they know that the government is not strict. Law enforcement agents should make arrests that will send a clear message that the government is serious.
Role of corporate social responsibility in waste strategies
Corporate social responsibility plays an essential role in influencing an organization to only engage in activities that benefit the population (Nordahl et al., 2020). Waste management strategies are implemented to protect members of the public from the effects of poor waste management strategies. In this respect, it is no doubt that Corporate Social Responsibility has influenced the drafting of the strategies (Nordahl et al. 2020).
Proactive strategies for industrial waste management
The first strategy is to have a program or plan in place for waste management. The biggest mistake that some organizations make is to establish an organization without proper waste management strategies. In the case of organizations that need to dispose of liquid wastes, they must have processing equipment. The main reason is to separate the liquid from solid wastes.
