How to Care Using Technology
The growth and introduction of technology in healthcare have significantly revolutionized the sector and how nursing practitioners care for patients. Nursing informatics has focused on patient-practitioner communication while embracing technology in record management, personalizing care, and data sharing among practitioners. There are various strategies that nurses can apply to personalize patient care through nursing informatics standards, including effective management of patient records. Such aspects will ensure that the patient gets personalized care. Nurses can deploy informatics standards to better understand diseases and a patient’s health history, thus delivering quality personalized care (Forde-Johnston et al., 2023). For example, an individual who has not recuperated from a chronic disease despite visiting different healthcare facilities to seek treatment can receive personalized care as nurses can efficiently share patient records, which could help improve care outcomes. Therefore, preserving patient records is one of the priorities in providing quality and personalized care to patients.
Through nursing informatics standards, technology can also enhance communication between healthcare providers and patients across different facilities, which can significantly enhance access to quality treatment. The health sector stipulates that quality patient care extends beyond the hospital facility to the community and the patient’s family. As a result, maintaining clear communication with the patient, particularly when the patient may not visit the hospital due to demographic and other challenges, contributes to quality personalized care (Grisot et al., 2019). An example includes cases where doctors can use video conferencing to direct and instruct patients or nurses remotely on various treatment procedures, demonstrating personalized treatment. Health facilities can also conduct special surgeries while engaging other expert practitioners through video conferencing to provide the necessary guidance and ensure better healthcare outcomes.
