A salesman
Defined as when a salesman knows more about a product rather than how a client’s business could use it, the salesman’s curse causes a problem to any sales representative. This results in a problem as the sales rep is unable to relate the product to the customer’s needs making all the information on the product useless. The sales pitch can go in the wrong direction as one may be keen on overselling the product alone (LaPointe, 2016). The issue with the salesman’s curse is that one may go on about the product only to find out that the client is not willing to buy the product in the first place.
To solve the salesman’s curse one can use a demo instead to close a deal. This allows the client to have a good idea of the product and learn how this product would specifically answer to their needs. A demonstration also shows a client how the product can mitigate any issues they have which makes them more likely to purchase the product. In the end, the customer may buy the product or they can decide to make a purchase in the future as they may be convinced that the product will be helpful.
The best demonstrations are those that are short and to the point. A key aspect is to not be too quick and go with the audience’s pace and help them understand the product. Among the best ways that provide for a good demonstration is to humanize, plan, and address any questions the prospect may have. It is also important to research the prospective client and answer all the questions that the client may have. Additionally, setting an agenda and a concise explanation of the product or service also aids in the demonstration and helps the client understand best what the salesperson is offering.
There are other ways to showcase a product other than demonstrations. These include working with an influencer, using Facebook ads, using imposing visual media, and using other social media platforms. With several different strategies to showcase a product a salesman always has a chance of accessing many clients.
