A scenario and application of psychology knowledge

Introduction

relating to the way people tend to react towards situations that they are going through, psychology is in action given the fact that the behavioural change is a must that one should always be in direction with. Our roles in these matters must be in favour of the outcomes that may likely affect the way we relate with our peers. Additionally, a behavioural change can be a temporary or permanent effect that consists of considering a change in an individual’s behaviour when compared to the previous action.  Moreover,  sometimes it is considered to be a mental problem. Yet, it is also used as a strategy for raising the status quo of these conditions, and this change is generally categorizing them by changes in thinking, socializing, relationships and emotions. These changes can be positive or negative reflecting on what will be affected. Furthermore, it calls for a lot to change one’s behaviour  for the best than to go through negative effects. The socializing between physiological processes and their impact on individual behaviour is a way of psychophysiology. Several many approaches show why and how behavioural change can be affected, including behaviourism, Self-efficacy theory, and the stages of change model.

Behavioural change can be very beneficial to an individual, though an annoying side-effect and a life-altering condition which takes considerable effort to repair.  The two theories on the subject include behaviour modification theory and cognitive behavioural theory, and both of these seek to help a patient engage in a positive behavioural change. However, legal and illegal drugs have to be based on altering behaviour, both acutely and chronically. In both cases, following common sense damage decrease policies can potentially reduce these side-effects. Consequently, with mental illness, behavioural change is a threat, expecting it in with drugs, and with the right techniques, it can be a method to improve quality of life.

A scenario concerning the above

When I was a child, I was diagnosed with heart failure and asthma conditions that made me get features of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. From then I started getting restless, finding it hard to concentrate and focus on my academics, association with other people became hard to the extent that I started feeling out of place causing me to make careless mistakes. Furthermore, life started becoming hard when I started acting impulsively towards my surrounding whenever I didn’t get the attention I needed from them. I started getting burdens of drugs that I would take daily.

Later my parents noticed the change in behaviour mostly towards my peers, then talked to my school administration to make them try to understand my situation. They then took away all my gadgets to let me learn that aspect of social interaction. However, the above problem highly affected me in a way that I was restricted from participating in sports and music dance and drama with the fear that I will get at attacks and fall sick. Additionally, this made me become more restless and jumping into conclusions hence affecting my grades because I would end up thinking a lot in that I felt they didn’t have faith that I could win. Notably, my teachers and parents joined hands and made me realize that I deserved the best and opted that I go for counselling and guidance which late increased my concentration in a way that the doctors motivated me. Nevertheless, I did not catch up very fast due to the negativity that had covered me a lot. Therefore, these daily sessions started making me get focused, actively participate in activities believing in myself little by little.

When I joined campus, I realized that I could do much better than I was performing because during the counselling sessions exposed to people with worse conditions hence inspiring me to achieve success in everything that I have always dreamt about.

Application of knowledge

While some behavioural is beneficial though some others can cause permanent damage to people experiencing them. Sometimes, a change can be due to something as small as an environmental cue, whereas other cases may take a more multifaceted approach. In those cases, there are several treatment options available. Notably, behaviour modification is one method used to correct harmful behaviours. This method is relying on the concept of using rewards and punishments to make the individual adjust to an action. For example, when I started feeling that I don’t fit in the school environment, I depended a lot on my gargets .these gargets were taken away so as I learn how to socialize with other people. By focusing on any specific issues the pa have, this type of therapy allows for a wide range of applications. Using Cognitive behavioural therapy is in the effort to change the behaviour of an individual. This type of treatment focuses in on challenging and changing maladaptive behaviours by utilizing emotional self-regulation, while also developing beneficial coping mechanisms. It requires the willing participation of the individual in counselling to be effective. Training of counsellors and their interventions can increase the likelihood of behavioural changes in those they counsel.

Conclusion

Since social learning emphasizes that behavioural change focuses on environmental, personal, and behavioural elements meaning that different factors affect others in one way or another, for example, in similarity with the principles of self-efficacy, an individual’s thoughts affect their behaviour, for instance, the way I thought that they don’t believe in me which made me partially an introvert and an individual’s characteristics provoke specific responses from the social environment. Likewise, an individual’s atmosphere affects the development of personal traits as well as the person’s behaviour, and an individual’s behaviour may change their environment along with the way the individual thinks or feels. Therefore, Social learning theory focuses on the shared interactions between these factors,  allowing them to determine behavioural change.
