The world we live in is undergoing development, globalization, and is turning into a hub of entrepreneurs and businessmen. The world is nothing but a globalized market. It is led by the successful leadership of global leaders who possess a vision to make the impossible happen. The curiosity in them helps them come up with significant innovations; they develop communication and maintain the market’s integrity. The market has turned so adverse that retention and recruiting challenges have arisen. Executives nowadays must have strong team building capability. But sadly, that’s not enough to thrive in the market. Up-to-date knowledge of technology and displaying very strong business acumen are also essential. Recent research shows that it is growing more and more difficult to navigate any business environment. It requires mastery over the possessed skills which could allow people to do so.

According to the Robert Half Management Resources survey, around 66% of the Chief Financial Officers (CFOs) around the world revealed that it is more challenging to be a company leader now that it was to be a company leader before 5 years. The problem is that this difficulty is still growing. Paul McDonald, the senior executive director of Robert Half, has revealed essential details that create this difficulty. These factors have intensified the pressure on the company leaders. The accelerated pace of change gives rise to emerging trends. Dispersing workforce can be seen if disrupted innovation is faced. There are also many regulatory compliance demands which are creating these difficulties in the lives of company leaders. Leadership theory is not only applicable to the global market of business but also in all other sectors. This includes four major types of methods in leadership. They are as follows:

  1. Behavioral theory: This theory answers the basic question of what a GOOD LEADER does. The answer to it is he/she focuses on the behavior of other leaders and learns how to behave. Maintaining of decency and display of patience is the most important of things.
  2. Contingency theory: This theory answers another basic question of leadership i.e., how good leadership is affected by the situation. The answer to this question is simple. Adapting and growing is the best thing in such a situation. A good leader knows how to react in each situation. Predicting which leadership style pays off in a particular situation is an essential trait that a leader needs to possess.
  3. Trait Theory: This theory answers the question regarding the type of person capable of being a good leader. Leadership emerges and prospers from a particular trait. Life-like qualities like being down to earth, excellent team-building, and proper guiding capability make a good leader stand out of the herd. Some other characteristics include dedication, determination, and love for the position. The hunger for power is another vital trait. Power and Influence Theories: Influence and power cannot be forced on people. Actions determine the amount of respect and power a person deserves. Dedication and love for the work a person does define his/her character professionally. A person dedicated to his job is listened to by subordinates and co-workers. If a person himself lags in his/her job, it is quite evident that their advice and words wouldn’t be taken seriously in the international context.

Comparing all these things to the leadership theories, a significant link can be found behind the theories’ truth. Behavioral theory is true as a good leader needs to be well behaved and possess the play of words necessary to convince a person. Without proper behavior, a lack of patience and weakness in the character is displayed. A good leader is always composed no matter what the situation is. Losing the calm and letting anger overpower other emotions is something that people would never appreciate. Contingency theory is also true as a leader needs to know what he/she is doing or is trying. If a leader doesn’t possess confidence about the work they do, how would people be convinced to do such work? Confidence in actions is a trait that a good leader ought to possess. Trait theory can be deemed eligible while choosing a leader for an organization. Team building is an essential quality that a leader should possess. If they cannot drive a group of people to achieve a particular goal, how would they take care of the organization? People ought to be listening to their leader as that would reflect the value of words that the leader has.

Last but not least is the theory of power and influence. This is quite self-defining but, discussing it leads to the outcome that power and influence pay off. Respect and value of words is something that a person ought to have if they want to be a leader. Imagine a leader without weight in words. People would never listen to a person they do not respect. Getting a job done is the quality that most organizations look for in any leader. Without power, a person is deemed ineligible to be a leader. Influence is the value of the face. A face that when people see assures them that the actions being done by them are for the right cause. A great leader lies in the perfect harmony and balance of all these traits and characteristics.

A leader should inspire people, and they should look up at the leader as an ideal example. Proper mentoring is yet another essential thing. A good leader also knows how to motivate a person. Praising and giving rewards are two simple steps that help boost a team’s morale under any leader. People look up to feedbacks for improvement but, only negative feedback could demotivate them. A perfect leader knows the importance of praising a person. Praising is constructive feedback, as appreciation is what every person desires. Another passive yet essential characteristic of any leader is the care he/she shows towards the team members. A leader cannot be cruel and entirely driven by work. A proper balance should be maintained between punishments and forgiveness. A leader should make ethical decisions like when to release the burden on a particular team member if the emergency arises and take it up to manage the team. A good leader is someone who works among the team members understanding their problems and short-comings. But, a leader must realize that there is a thin line between providing relief and letting loose. A leader ought not to be biassed towards any team member and should ensure equal distribution of labor.

On the contrary, if the organizational policies are flawed, an employee is most likely to emerge as a representative of the employees to gain proper treatment. This would cause significant losses for the company as the employees wouldn’t stand an exploiting company.

On the contrary, if they had a leader with lousy management capacity, they know what they should not turn into. A person displaying all the qualities as per the leadership theory is a brilliant example of a perfect leader.

Transforming the global market is very necessary. The older generations of entrepreneurs are going to fall back, giving new leaders a chance to prosper. To seize this opportunity with both hands, a leader should know what he should and should not be doing. Reputation and image are the things that are going to matter in the market, after all.
