About England
England, a major importer of textiles and chemical products, is indeed a highly industrialized nation with industries such as automobile, locomotives, and aircraft all which significantly contribute to the growth and development of the economy of England (Smith, 1972). The service industry, on the other hand, has also been a major contributor to England’s economy. The manufacturing and primary industries over the years have boomed with only slight declines over the recent decades. With the official currency of England being British pound sterling, the central bank of the United Kingdom is the Bank of England in London. As a matter of fact, the city of London is among the top financial centers in the world with banks, insurance companies, and commodity as well as future exchanges. The fiscal year of England is in April.
Over the 17th and 18th century, English colonies have recorded massive increase in economic growth of 2.5percent. Though the seventeenth-century rates began with a small base, the rapid growth in the population in early modern Europe was heavily influenced by immigration. New England, in particular, has recorded a significant increase in the population with population record of about 14.4 million as per 2010 census. Ideally, this was up by 2.5percent since 2000 (DiscoverNewEngland, n.d). New England is geographically located at the northeast end the USA. It composed of six states including Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut. Bordered by Canada to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, the Long Island to the south as well as New York State to the west.
The majority of the population in New England are the youth. They account for about 22.4percent while the elderly account for about 13.5percent (Giles, 2015). White Americans are the majority since they account for about 83.4percent of all New England’s population. Moreover, 77 percent of the white population are not-Hispanic origin while 7.3percent constitute the black Americans. The Chinese Americans in New England account for about 1.1percent while the Indians account for about 0.8percent. The Japanese Americans are about 0.1percent. The majority of the economic activities in New England takes place in States such as Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. The large rivers, forests, beaches, and activities are suitable for activities such as skiing; mountain climbing is standard. In the late 18th century, the government of New England resisted Britain’s move with regards to taxation. The Boston Tea Party is famous primarily because it led to the introduction of strict laws in Massachusetts (Smith, 1972). Over the years, political power has shifted to the northern cities. States in the Northern England has the highest amount of growth with a 3 percent growth. London has had the fastest growing economic growth with 5.3per cent growth in 2013. Scotland has been on the top as it has recorded massive commercial success as it comes third after London and southeast England (Giles, 2015).
Middle England, on the other hand, does not refer to a particular geographical region. However, the residents of suburbs in South England and the Midlands make up the Middle England. Middle America is typical of the middle class and lower middle classes of non-urban Britain. The suburban areas northwest of London are composed of small towns better known as metro-lands. Nationals in Middle England are mainly categorized into white, middle class or lower-middle class, heterosexual with a strong worth ethic and highly developed sense of conscientiousness (BBC, 2015). Moreover, Middle England makes up 25percent of UK population whose members are not influenced by any particular party or political grouping. According to polling company MORI, Middle England is considered a significant influence, especially in the United Kingdom general elections. During the economic forum held with the aim of ousting European Union membership referendum in 2016, Middle England was seen to be a major proponent.
To the south is the Southern New England which is made up of urban centers spanning from Boston to Washington, D.C. The South is often considered a major cultural area of England and is composed of four main regions including South West England, South East England, London as well as East of England. Southern England covers a total area of 62,042 square kilometers. It has a population of about 28 million (DiscoverNewEngland, n.d). According to BBC (2015), growth in America is mainly driven by Southern English cities. Economic growth in 2015 for example, ranged between 0.5-2.9percent. According to EY Item Club’s chief economic adviser, Professor Peter Spencer, the falling oil prices have come to the relief of declining exports. The weak Eurozone according to him has remained to be a threat to growth. However, financial service firms continue to reap benefits from the European economy (BBC, 2015).
