Administrative management
Lesson 11
One year ago, I had some job interview in a new organization. In this job interview, the interviewer knew very well that I had no experience in the field, as the position was for entry-level in the first place. In this case, I was asked some questions that were quite irrelevant. For instance, one of the questions that was asked to me was whether I ever experienced some organizational challenges and how I handled them. This question was irrelevant to me since I had never worked before in the first place.
Apart from that, the other thing that makes me feel that the interviewer asked irrelevant job interview questions was the fact that he delved so much into my personal life. I was certain that my personal life had nothing to do with task accomplishment in case am considered for the job. One of the questions that made me feel like the interview was out of context is when the interviewer asked me the number of siblings that I had. To me this was personal and had nothing to do with the skills requirements, neither did it match with any of the duties and responsibilities expected of the job position. Therefore, from the lecture notes and the provided video, I can comfortably state that the interview questions that I was asked were not appropriate.
Lesson 12
Diversity is one of the desired trends in the current world which is regarded as a global village. This component is known to have various advantages with one of them being that it contributes to the expansion of the knowledge base, and, at the same time, promotes creative thinking. Taking an example of a college, it is noted that diversity comes in with the opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds to learn from each other. As a result, this leads to the widening of the knowledge base. On the other hand, when it comes to the business arena, diversity can help in finding many alternative solutions to a single problem, and this prompts creative thinking.
Apart from that, the other advantage of diversity is that it helps in increasing self-awareness. It is noted that self-knowledge is usually sharpened when one gets exposed to other people, especially when such interacting parties have life experiences that fall in the opposite spectrum. Regardless of whether in business or college, engaging with people whose opinions, ideas and experiences differ from that which one holds increases self-insight. Therefore, diversity has two main advantages to a business organization and college and these are expanding the knowledge base and enhancing creative thinking along with increasing self-awareness.
