Adolescent bullying is associated with poor physical and mental health among the adolescents. Bullying can be in the form of sexual harassment or even violence, and it is believed to affect academic achievement of the adolescent negatively. From the articles, it is clear that adolescent bullying leads to poor academic performance in schools. This is because the adolescents who are bullied develop low self-esteem and they may sometimes lack support from home due to fear. This in turns affects their academic achievement because they lack the confidence to address their needs. The working environment affects the performance of everybody which means adolescents will perform poorly if they are exposed to an environment of bullying and sexual harassment.
Schools with adolescents bullying discourage students from going outside to play which makes most of them remain in a classroom when others are playing. This is because bullying mostly occurs when these children are in the field or outside classes not when in a classroom. From the research done, students reported an increased rate of absenteeism due to fear that when they attend school, they will be bullied. This also interferes with their academic performance because they fear to interact with other students who can assist them improve their academic performance.
Adolescent bullying is believed to affect the student physically and also mentally. This is because the bullying can be direct which involves violence or sexual abuse and this leads to physical injuries. Indirect bullying can be in the form of relationship victimization which makes the students have poor relationships with others and due to this, they have poor academic performance in the classroom. Psychological health of students who are bullied is affected which interferes with their judgment, and this can increase anxiety even when the students are not in school. Some students experience adolescent bullying due to their weight, and this affects their esteem as well as leading ton reduced academic performance.
