Advocates of Capital Punishment
The people who support the death penalty claim, the death penalty serves as some deterrence for criminals. They suggest that when we execute someone, it will prevent other criminals from committing crimes. That’s just not the case for many reasons I have previously stated. Another being retributions are the only way to deal with murders. They claim an “eye for an eye” is the best way to deal with these kinds of people. So, it makes sense why they would say that and where they are coming from is understandable. However, these are all emotionally driven claims. There is no real logic behind it. Today’s world, everyone seems much more sensitive and emotional based. Maybe it is just me, but you’ll see on social media how offended people are over everything. It raises more questions than answers.
My ideas and beliefs are much more realistic and logical verse being pro-death. For all the reasons I listed above, the death penalty will never be the form of retribution people are looking for—only a “quick fix” to a long-term illness we have in this country. The way we should move forward is getting rid of the death penalty permanently (BRUGGER, 2008). Doing so will send the right subliminal messages out to the public. Some may not agree; whiles that’s okay, it is vital to keep points out the studies that were done show the death penalty will not deter criminals in any way.
On the other hand, there is clear evidence showing states that chose no death penalty had a much lower murder rate. It’s even safe to say the death penalty will increase the murder rate. Anyone who believes in the death penalty has failed to present a full proof case in their favor. Along with that, it is proven the death penalty is failing, executing someone is not easy.
Being against the death penalty does not make you a weak person. From the very first recorded execution in America in Jamestown, and now in the present day, the death penalty is not justified. It did not work in the past, it will not deter criminals, and the death penalty no longer makes sense in our society (“Death Penalty: An Unethical Punishment,” 2018). For all the reasons listed above, these statements hold. America is punishing people for killing, so what gives us the right to kill people in return? This will never fix the problem, and no solution will ever come from executions.
