Alternative approaches to the project.
There are available different approaches to the railway project, Otherwise referred to as other forms of transportation. This project could as well be conducted for other types of transport which could as well provide the satisfaction of the goals that were put down for the construction of the railway. The different approaches available for the Darwin railway project are road, air and water.
The railway line had a better experience and proper management of the project that saw the project meet its conclusion objectives. It could facilitate the movement of trains in transporting goods from one place to another. The same way, without this project, other forms of transport could be used instead. There could be building of a road to cater to the transportation activities that wee to be carried out by the train. Trails as well do the services provided by the railroads and have considerable advantages over the train itself. Merat, Louw, Madigan, Wilbrink and Schieben (2018) emphasized on the importance of constructing right roads and the benefits associated with road transport. Roads just like rails can provide a good transport form for goods.
Another approach of the railway project is Airline. Use of aeroplanes instead of the trains is a considerable idea that could be considered by the project evaluators. This includes the purchase of a plane that could assist in transportation instead of the construction. In other considerations, the construction project was a strategic one because of its durability after installation. It is useful for decades, unlike Cargo planes that may wear and tear over time. Using water as a form of transport was as well an excellent project to consider; however, it has more limitations than advantages due to the waterways availability.
Lessons from this project
This project was well managed and had better preparations, and therefore it has a lot of lessons to learn. The project had the best preparation before it commenced such that when the project reached its first stage, it had already passed some processes that gave it limelight for the progress. Before the management, a lot had been done like the launch, set up of a team and financial consideration before getting up to the general project procedures.
I have learnt that project understanding the stakeholders is of paramount importance. Many plans do fail because of the project managers failing to understand their stakeholders’ contribution to the project. Van Vliet et al. (2020) emphasizes that understanding stakeholders make the project avoid many risks associated with not taking their notes. The project managers who put into account the business requirements of stakeholders do succeed. However, some of the stakeholder’s opinions may be vague. The project managers need to choose what is best and what is misleading.
Another lesson I have learnt in this project is, Proper management of the project team brings out high returns. Haughey (2018) reports that a good project manager can lessen project risks. Project managers who work as a team with the members have a high degree of success. As well as the success of a project highly depends on the management tactics applied by the project manager. The manager of the Darwin railway had the best management tactics that ensured the project’s finance is well used or managed to the success of the project. The success of this railway was based on the incorporation of other departments too in the process so that the cost of the project wasn’t such a high and timely requisition of the materials was considered to ensure the project was complete at its time.
Weekly Summaries.
Project management success is defined by the efficiency in its management, which depends mainly on the skills provided by the stakeholder, managers skills and the environment created by the team. Giri (2019) maintains that projects performance relies on project managers, human resource skills or roles. Project managers have a wide range of tasks in project management. Incorporating other departments in an organization for an organization has an advantage in ensuring the project succeeds at the end of its estimated duration. This is evident in the case of Alice Darwin railways construction project.
Industrial relations in a company when conducting a project is a success factor that most project managers do not consider when it has significant importance. It provides more labour and workforce in case it is a need in the project. It is as well a demonstration of an associations’ organization approach. While doing a project in a place, it is essential to maintain a good relationship with the community and the local contractors in case it is a contraction kind of project.
In measuring the project success, several factors are considered ranging from time, quality, cost and stakeholder satisfaction. Time of completion of the project is so vital in evaluation ad reduction of expenses associated with services provided by the team. Cases of quality are better given to the respective department, like the procurement to ensure the quality of the project’s materials. The cost of a project should be according to the estimated one at the completion time. Stakeholders satisfaction is met when their ideas are incorporated, and they fully accept the project at completion. That’s when they see the value of tee sources used in the project.
