AMERICAN STUDIES
American studies are the field that deals with criticism, culture, ethics, and professionalism in its citizens and the general discipline of an individual. It mainly focuses on the history of the American people, their past, and current interactions worldwide. However, the subjects are comprehensive, in such aspects that they examine American history, including the communities, ideologies of the specific American culture. Topics included in the American studies include; the social movement, the media, culture, political structures, economic wellbeing of the citizens, sports, art, and the literature.
The American studies are a crucial academic discipline in a way that it brings together their history and the African, Asian, and European history together on the social movement and relations with other countries. In short, it is a discipline of diversity. It is essential since it enables the citizens to acquire life skills, discipline, professionalism, creativity, innovation, patriotism, and loyalty towards their government.
American, to me, is a great country that comprises many states with their governments and economy, which are controlled by a central government that is purely elected by the people of America through voting. The Americans have their rights and very critical to them. The Americans have fought for their freedom and greatness to survive. It is a nation of diversity, economic superiority, democracy, political stability, technology hub, and the world’s future socioeconomic and political sustainability.
American culture is the way of people of America, the traditions that form the base of their customs, and how they interact with other people worldwide. It also comprises their way of dressing, life preferences, political organizations, and the education system the follow, entertainment such as music they listen, sports they adore, and their religion. The American culture is critical to the Americans because of its diversity. It influences marriage, education, religion and language, politics, and economic progress. Some of America’s best qualities may include and are not limited to; the Americans are known to be fair all that they do. This means that they mostly decide matters on the mutual and equitable ground without favoritism, fear, or favor.
They are creative and innovative in that they have overtime designed their tools and machines for the benefits of the larger society around the globe, thus boosting bilateral ties with other counties in the world without forgetting their economy. Examples of such tools include; airplanes, drones designed for war. America is well known for its generosity. It has international agencies to help and lift the people’s socioeconomic and political wellbeing across the globe. For instance, it has USAID, which is well known as international aid for the people in desperate and inhuman conditions. The American government offers scholarships for students to advance their studies.
America is one of the counties that are future-oriented. It offers priority for the generations to come by providing education and setting a strong base for the youth to find a more generous country to live in than other countries in the world that are corrupt and lack grounds for future generations. Americans are known to be very confidential, especially in matters of their security. They remain confidentially, thus preserving their secrets from being exposed to other countries around the world, which could conspire to attack America.
America’s worst qualities include; America for some time has reported several cases of racism and racialism in their country by discriminating against their minorities’ color of black Americans and other races. The American people are known to be indiscreet in that they do not conserve the environment as expected. Due to massive industrialization in their country, which causes uncontrolled pollution, climate change and global warming have become inevitable in the entire world. It has, in turn, has led to a decrease in water levels in oceans and seas. Well, changes are in place with awareness kicking in concerning climate and climatic change, environmental conservation, and care for the next generation. Imagine having a grandchild who will have to breathe dirty air all his or her life? No, America must move fast to the first lane of environmental safety. America must be great again! How? You and me-we need to be responsible for all aspects. As Mary Barra says, we need the next generation to enjoy life: zero-emission, fast mobility, and a safer lifestyle.
American culture has enhanced materialism and extreme capitalism in society. This is because they value money, wealth, materials against scorning those of low socioeconomic status, which has led to social stratification in the community. Gun obsession in America has become a day to day lifestyle. This has led to the mass loss of lives among the American people.
One of the best cultural metaphors that can describe American success and achievement is Melting Together. This means that diverse cultural backgrounds are brought together to develop one unique culture in society. What else would you call a nation driven by the whites, African-Americans, Spaniards, and the Asians? It is a pool that ‘melts’ together, a country of diversity in the composition of norms, values, religion, origin, talents, and educational capabilities, among other cultural diversities. In American culture, it entails various elements from a different background that are unruffled to one culture. Therefore, the metaphor has been used to explain the coming up of one American nation from different nationalities, races, cultures, religions, etc. It has consequently enhanced the idea of democracy, professionalism, economy, sport, art, and language among the American nationals, thus forming the American people’s ideal sovereignty.
Initially, America was founded by mostly immigrants from Scotland, Europe, Germany, Ireland, and Israel, among others, thus forming a strange mixture of blood that has no match in any other country in the world. The integration of these immigrants has resulted in creating one strong nation in the world. It has also brought about the creativity and uniform institutions, language and ideas, fairness, democracy, and an improved economy. I hope everyone across the globe wishes to visit America one day in their lifetime. In Swahili speaking nations, they call America “majuu.” It means the higher government for abroad. America is a renowned land, famous and resourceful. What if
