Art exhibition description

Art is a vital aspect of human life since its development in the early centuries. The first artists act as a source of motivation for the current artists in various ways. The art depicts essential aspects in society, be it in prior wars, education importance, philosophies, beliefs, and memory, among other forms. It is worth noting that exhibitions give room for the art piece to meet the intended audience. The art exhibition may take videos, sculptures, pictures, performance, and sound (Gardner and Green, 2016). Many people understand that an exhibition takes place for a given period unless it intends to be a permanent exhibition. The target audience is always in the artists’ minds as they come up with a specific piece of work for an exhibition. There is a description of an art exhibition in different significant elements for the essay, including the intention, feeling, lighting, colors, forms, and textures.

Description

The artwork under focus belongs to Donatello and is named St. John Evangelist. The piece of art is present in the appendix section, and its description takes multiple forms. The photographer of the art piece was Antonio Quattrone. The piece of art seems to have a solid linkage to the religious aspect of society. There are many reasons behind the assertion, especially the garment that the person in the art has. The object held in his hand represents a bag for carrying materials related to religious teachings.

It is worth noting that the artwork presents the man in bright colors, and the background is a black color. In sensible cases, the aspect of Christianity involves changing people’s lives to the better in the perspective of knowing God (Ó Carragáin and Turner, 2016). It represents getting people from their dark lives and showing them the bright side of their lives. Therefore, the choice of color for the art exhibition was strategic because the black color indicates the evil ways of people, and the bright color shows the people who decide to convert to Christianity, with the help of evangelism. The color has a compatibility aspect with the message for the intended audience, and it is harmonious and vibrant.

There is a varying tone presented by the change in the colors. The tone is significant because it indicates the tonal shift between the pagans and Christians. The picture’s composition is of a portrait format, whereby the man is centered and seems to be sitting on a rounded structure. It is symmetrical, and the distance between the man and the left end of the art is the same as that distance from the man and the right end. According to Huckaby, having a look at a piece of art, and knowing the texture can be hard (Huckaby, 2015). However, a keen look at it can give a hint of the texture. An example in the art exhibition of the essay is the glossy texture. It looks uniform from the dark-colored background to the bright color of the man. The level of shininess looks homogenous all through the picture. The only noticeable difference in the textural aspect is the evangelist’s hair that looks coarse because of the hairstyle. However, the coarse nature of the hair is natural without the application of hair additives. Some years ago, the piece of art was made where there was the absence of hair additives.

The piece of art takes the form of a 3-dimensional representation. The target audience gets a clear picture of the evangelist sitting on the structure comfortably in the natural sense of space and depth. The piece has sharp edges and looks geometric. It is also vital to look at the lighting aspect of the piece of art regarding the direction of light, the intensity, the mood that it creates, and the source of light, whether artificial or natural. It is hard to notice any shadows of the evangelist because of the black-colored background, an aspect that makes it hard to identify the direction of light. However, the art seems to be naturally lit from the front, just that the shadow cannot be seen behind. It is gentle lighting concerning the intensity element.

The viewpoint of the evangelist is from the front side and near to the eye. The display is such a way to give a clear view of the target audience’s sight. It was an exhibition in New York in 2015, as it was a good source of art for critics. It gives the viewer the feeling of what evangelism is all about and the dress code of evangelists during the early centuries, which is also an artist’s intention. The box held in the hand of the man seems to be carrying the Bible, which is a significant aspect of the Christianity religion.

Conclusion

There are several aspects that a critic can use to describe a piece of art. It all depends on the intention and the criticism level. The aspects used to describe the artwork in the essay are essential for understanding and recognizing the art. There is a likelihood of an artist maintaining a particular style in all his drawings, a source of identity. Therefore, the in-depth analysis of any art exhibition is vital for both the target audience and the artist.
