Art in ancient times
Art in ancient times assumed a lot of meaning. Ancient societies used it as a vessel to communicate feelings and mood and also emphasized the importance and accomplishments made by human beings. Usually, it was produced by people from the developed cultures of ancient times like Greece, Palestine, India, Egypt, and others. Some of the famous pieces of ancient art were made in the Italian Baroque period, the Renaissance period, and the Greek Hellenistic period.
Baroque art was specially made to let us relate the image, not only in our minds bt also in our bodies. In composing David’s sculpture, Bernini formed it in a manner which, looking at the sculpture suddenly, carries us away to feel how David on the work of art was feeling. In terms of space, the High Renaissance sculptures were composed in the shape of a pyramid. A pyramid is associated with stability in art. However, in the baroque era, the compositions assume the form of a diagonal. This is to suggest movement. Either, it could also be a suggestion of energy as this was an era of fights and torture, and only the strong were at a better place of surviving. Either the David sculpture makes use of the surrounding space by extending the figure from its central axis, thus making space a more crucial element.
Mainly, al the three sculptures in question seem to be meaningful to their time. For instance, the Lacoon sculpture of the Trojan priest shows the feeling of suffering that was experienced by the victims who were trying to flee themselves from the snakes. It is made in style in art called The Hellenistic style that shows the nature of the artist as being emotional. It effectively, therefore, explores the themes of the ancient greek culture, which included pain and suffering. Either, the David sculpture showed the energy that the biblical hero had to fight his opponent. Considering the prevailing circumstances in the era of the formation of Lacoon sculpture, the sculpture communicates the feeling (fear), the action to be taken (fighting back), and also the energy that was required.
