Article Review and Critique
A research article reports a scholar’s research practice and finding. The writing of a research paper takes place with the audience of other researchers in mind. To be accepted and published in a scholarly community, the article must pass through several quality tests. The most vital of these tests is peer review. My role in reviewing the article is to ensure that it meets the minimum requirements of a scholarly work. In my view, a well-done article follows all the article requirements for scholarly standards. Another critical qualification for a scholarly article is the relevance of the topic it studies.
The article of selection in this case is a research paper by Carles Feixa and Jordi Nofre on Youth cultures. The two seek to understand the new practices and customs that come up as a result of youth activities. The research shows findings of behaviors that come from the experiences of young people and their causes. The work is generally significant considering the rapid growth and changes in youth behavior across the globe. The methodology, findings, and conclusion all correlate with the main objective of the article. I would publish the research because it touches on a relevant aspect of the society and it uses realistic and credible data for evaluation.
The research in question uses descriptive design. In its findings, the authors use case studies, naturalistic observations, and surveys. The research is therefore robust in its design because it gives credible survey findings on the sample spaces with which it works. The only flaw in the research is the limit of the sample space. The descriptive nature of research as it is requires a considerably bigger sample space before answering the research questions. The flaw is, however, not severe in the article. The findings of the research are similar to other several contemporary works. The results show that the youth cultures are majorly influenced by the environment within which they grow. The same sentiments are in the article by*. The authors are providing strong evidence for their work citing examples and surveys from various parts of the world. The study stretches across the United Kingdom and the United States schools in the quest of providing substantial support for the study.
The study does not require major revisions. It gives several reading guides in terms of annotations to the readers. The presentation of the work is precise and eloquent. However, the research is bulky in terms of words. The formatting of the article is not proper on account of the number of words. The spacing and fonts used in the article need positive adjustments to enable easy reading by the audience. The article, on the other hand, uses a simple and elaborate language that is comprehensible by any reader. An additional issue in the article is the disproportionality of the various sections. The abstract of the article is relatively short in comparison to the other parts. The paper also provides unreasonably many citations that congest the sentences with parenthesis. These parts require adjustments. The research also relies on past works about youth cultures. The previous works as case studies may not be credible for substantial findings.
The article follows all the citations and referencing APA guidelines. It does not have any noticeable spelling and grammatical errors. As a researcher, I have learned to use a relevant research topic to add credibility to my writing. However, I will ensure that my research is based on primary sources for accuracy and precision. Whenever doing a research paper, I will also use a big sample size for better outcomes of my study. I have learned that descriptive researches require more case studies and observation for reliable and credible findings.
