The world is dynamic, and this means that it can undergo any change at any time. Various changes have been experienced in the world, affecting human beings in multiple ways. One of the significant changes that the world has seen in recent years is the development of technology. The vof technology has come along with a huge impact. Technology has been employed in various places to carry out multiple activities that have proven effective. On the other hand, the advancement of technology has affected human beings negatively. For example, the development of computers has resulted in artificial intelligence, which involves the use of various features, such as robots, to carry out various human tasks. As much as artificial intelligence has made it easy to carry out these tasks, it has affected human beings as they have been rendered jobless since most of the duties they used to carry out have been taken away by the robots. Over the past few years, various contributors have come up and have provided their argument concerning how Artificial Intelligence is taking away human jobs. Therefore, this paper will focus on the arguments of three main contributors who are Gary Kasparov, Joi Ito, and Kate Popcorn, discussing how AI is taking away human jobs.
Gary Kasparov who wrote the article, “As Robots Replace Old Jobs, New Jobs should be created,” to contribute on the idea that AI is taking away human jobs, Argued that
Machines have been replacing humans since their invention. Kasparov made the casual claim that robots are replacing people on their old jobs because firms have begun mechanization immediately after the first invention of machines thousands of years ago. The argument made by Kasparov is 1. since companies are considering mechanization and replacing humans on their old jobs, it is the high time for people to create more jobs since they believe that it has huge capabilities that will help to attain the required goals and objectives within a short time. The claim that has been made by Kasparov is true as these robots are performing the tasks that were meant for human beings. 2. Human beings will always come up with a way to develop machines that have the same performance as human beings. As this issue goes on, the entire profession will go upward as more machines will get developed and become more capable. The claim made by Kasparov is that the development of these machines, such as robots, saves human beings from tedious labor and help them become ambitious and imaginative. However, when one person is liberated from a tedious task, there is another one that becomes unemployed. Conclusion. Machines have indeed been taking away jobs meant for human beings since they started being developed. This argument is in the standard argument form of modus ponens, which is also known as affirming the antecedent. The argument that has been presented by Kasparov is good as it is evident that human beings are continually developing machines to help them handle more tasks in a short time and increase productivity. However, this approach has resulted in more people losing their jobs. The argument presented is not a fallacy because Kasparov has explained information from various experienced that is evident in many places. Overall, as new machines continue to be developed to handle the tasks meant for humans, new jobs should be developed to ensure that these individuals are not rendered jobless.
Joi lto who wrote the article, “Well-Intentioned uses of Technology can go wrong,” to contribute his views on how the presence of Artificial Intelligence is taking away human jobs, argued that
The development of machines is one of the good intentions of technology aimed at enhancing productivity. However, lto made the casual claim that the good intentions of technology has gone wrong become these machines are taking the jobs meant for human beings. The argument made by lto is 1. the research on today’s artificial intelligence focuses on machine learning, whereby various engineers train machines such as robots to supplement the intelligence of human beings. 2. Human beings develop the algorithms that are used to develop artificial intelligence, and it can have the same biases that are evident in society and perpetuates them under the disguise of a smart machine. For example, a policing algorithm can be used to predict place that needs more security due to high crime rates, or the kind of people that should be classified as a terrorist or a criminal. Ethical and moral principles have to be used in this case, failure in which the technology that is meant to improve the wellbeing of the society may bring other negative aspects. Conclusion. Most of the features of technology which have been developed are indeed intended for good purposes. However, this is not the case as there are events that occur which are against human expectations. The argument that has been made by lto is good when one looks at it first, but it is a poor argument. As much as lto has explained that good intentional use of technology can go wrong, he has failed to explain how the development of machines may render take away the jobs meant for human beings. Moreover, the argument presented by lto is a fallacy because they are based on his own opinion as well as assumptions, and the premise is not plausible. Overall, even though the argument is not plausible, it is true that the well-intentioned use of technology can go wrong, and it is essential to develop a framework of ethics that will be used to control the use of artificial intelligence.
Kate Popcorn, the contributor who wrote, “Artificial Intelligence May Usher in a New Golden Age,” to provide her opinion of about how AI is taking away human jobs, argued that
Continued reliance on artificial intelligence may lead to the development of a new age, and that is an era where robots will replace thousands of human beings in various avenues. Popcorn argued that 1. Artificial intelligence will result in automation of different activities, and as a result, 47 percent of workers in the United States of America are likely to lose their jobs. 2. Artificial intelligence has led to the development of transcription software as well as voice recognition. As a result of this innovation, human beings will only be able to speak and not write. Conclusion. The increased rates of artificial intelligence may indeed usher in a New Golden Age. This argument, as presented by Popcorn, is in the form of an argument from consensus. The argument by Popcorn is good as it has explained the long term result that artificial intelligence may have on society. Moreover, the argument is free from fallacy as the information contained in it is not based on the views or opinions of the author but the actual happenings. Overall, the argument is plausible since it has sufficient evidence on how artificial intelligence is going to take away human jobs.
