Assignment 8 Discussion A
As a student in the MSN nursing program, I took an interest in infection prevention and control program which had increased my understanding of the common infections associated with the hospital environment. The high risk of patients and nursing practitioners has led to high mortality and morbidity rate among patients due to hospital-acquired infections. With such rates, the professional goals I wish to achieve in the next two years after completing my master’s degree is becoming leadership support in nursing care and a trainer of healthcare personnel regarding infection prevention. As a leader, I will liaise with other organization leaders to ensure that healthcare organizations provide sufficient resources that will support frontline personnel to adhere to infection prevention practices. Also, I will ensure that all personnel responsible for implementing an infection control program are well educated with the relevant infection prevention education.
I also aspire to be a trainer of all the other healthcare personnel on matters relating to infection prevention and control. With my career, I will assess all the areas of practice and ensure that the performance of these areas meets the expectations. This will offer an opportunity to understand specific practice issues that can increase the risk of transmission and then educate other healthcare personnel on how to avoid transmission. I have the chance to apply the learned knowledge, think critically in a way that I can tackle both the expected and unexpected challenges in the healthcare facility. Such knowledge will be transmitted to other healthcare workers through training and education. The education from American Sentinel University will be used to achieve the two goals relating to my area of specialization.
