Assignment 8 part B
The importance of good Data
Every project requires data that allow understanding of the project problem. When designing and implementing infection control program, complete and accurate data is required which will guide on the relevant intervention for preventing hospital-acquired infections. Good data is clear, and it serves the right purpose for its collection. Infection control data should be reliable and relevant for use in preventing hospital-acquired infections. To make the data more reliable and complete, it should be collected from a large sample size so that it can be a representative of the whole problem in a hospital. The data should also be up to date so that it can be used for the immediate problem affecting the facility. With the right data, decision-making is made effective, and the right interventions are implemented regarding infection control in the healthcare system.
Roles of an Infection Prevention Nurse
An infection control nurse is responsible for preventing the spread of infectious agents like bacteria and viruses in a healthcare system. Infection control nurse specializes in preventing infections transmission by training other healthcare workers on the best practices to employ to avoid hospital-acquired infections. Such nurses have a responsibility of controlling and preventing dangerous epidemics and outbreaks from occurring as they have the knowledge and skills of how to prevent such epidemics. They also alert government agencies and hospital administrators on any expected outbreak with the aim of informing them for the best preventive measures to be implemented. It is also the role of the infection control nurse to ensure that an outbreak does not happen by controlling it before it actually happens. The infection control data collected should be complete so that it can be used in preventing infections likely to happen in healthcare facilities. They also minimize the transmission rate by separating patients with highly infectious diseases from the rest of the population.
