Evidence-based practice is an approach to care which incorporates research with clinical expertise and patient values. Although various healthcare organizations understand the significance of EBP implementation, most of them lack knowledge of ways to facilitate evidenced-based practice in a healthcare organization. One method that I can use to facilitate EBP into the healthcare facility is the creation of a learning environment as well as designing and delivering training programs in the facility. Creating a learning environment where all healthcare workers are willing to learn new tactics is crucial to making the nurse workers understand the significance of EBP in the treatment and care of patients. Training employees on effective application of EBP in patient care reduce barriers to implementation and facilitate the adoption of the practice among healthcare workers.
With a learning environment, a culture of evidence-based decision making will be created in the healthcare facility which promotes the use of clinical evidence and research in making clinical decisions. EBP journal clubs form part of the programs that should be initiated to facilitate a learning environment, and this consequently will facilitate EBP in the facility. A healthcare facility with a learning environment encourages employees to embrace changes easily since they are trained in how to work with the changes through learning. Training equips nurses and other healthcare workers with the relevant skills required for better application of EBP in decision making. Also, training comes with free access to EBP databases and resources as a way to promote usage of the resources in clinical decision making. Thus, creating a learning environment and designing training programs will be an effective method to facilitate evidence-based practice in any healthcare facility.
