Summary of Articles.
On September, 11th 2019, the Aboriginal Health and Medical Research council correspondent Matthew James posted a blog titled “Aboriginal Social and Emotional Wellbeing in an Australian Urban Community”. The media item was an overview of the various emotional and wellbeing issues of the indigenous people in Australia. The blog covers the various factors that cause the emotional wellbeing of the indigenous people in Australia. According to Matthew (2019), the different aspects that enhance the emotional wellbeing of the indigenous people in Australia are overlooked by the healthcare policies by the federal government. The indigenous people in Australia (Aboriginal and Torres islanders) are thus disadvantaged by the health policies that the federal government adopts. Various aspects of life in Australia also cause the emotional elements of indigenous Australians. The healthcare aspects of the Aboriginal and Torres Islanders in Australia are cultural and affect the federal elections. The disparities in healthcare provision amongst the indigenous and non-indigenous Australians are analyzed by the blog and also the various measures that can be taken to reduce the gap and ensure healthcare provision to the indigenous Australians. Various organizations and groups have come up with forums and platforms to enhance the provision of better healthcare services to the indigenous Australians and thus enhance their emotional health and situations.
The other media article that I will analyze is an article by Korff, J, (2020) that looks at the various coverage of the health issues among the indigenous Australians. The report was posted in Creative spirits media and listed as a media article. The publication looks at the various ways that the mainstream media covers the aspects of health about the Aboriginal and Torres Islanders and how the coverage affected the emotional health of the people. Korff argues that the mainstream media in Australia is skewed towards the non-indigenous people in reporting of the health care issues. The skewness causes emotional distress to the indigenous people as they have nowhere to express their concerns. The health coverage in the country id also skewed towards the non-indigenous people and thus made it hard for the Aboriginal and Torres islanders to get medical care.
