BECOMING A MUSIC PRODUCER: A PERSONAL STATEMENT
Personal Statement
Growing up, it never dawned on me that one day I would develop a strong passion to music and would completely fall in love with it. Music was just a background sound that to me had no definite meaning. With a frequent exposure to sounds, a lot of questions began being elicited on my mind. Questions on who performs certain music, why and how instilled on me a thirst for answers. My fascination with rhythms and lyrics further elevated my interest in music. My undying passion for music led me to a journey that turned out to be a life changing journey.
In a bid to learn more I tried to achieve the same sounds as the ones I frequently heard. It required having an in-depth experience in vocal technique. With a bunch of favorite artists such as Mary J. Blige, Allaya and Missy Eliot, there was no better way of beginning my musical journey than recording a rendition of some of these songs. As an upcoming rapper and a backup vocalist, I decided to do a cover of “everyday it rains” by Mary J. Blige. The cover did well and my instrumental received a recognition by a studio owner. At this time, I still never had a clue of what it would be to pursue a music professional. It was not until an encounter inside a music studio that I got intrigued by a wide variety of music instruments. I needed to know how each worked and how they worked perfectly at the same time. It is at this time that I knew it would be appropriate to pursue music professionally.
I was accepted at the University of East London to pursue a bachelor’s degree in music technology. My 3 years in school was a great experience. I gained a lot of experience. I was able to master different skills of music technology notably the creation of music product, composition of music, DJ performance alongside triggering a video. I have also learnt about the connection between music and visual image, sounding commercials, animation and logos. It is also during this time that I became acquainted with Foley samples and sound design art. I have managed to work alongside great minds in the music technology industry. During the production of 7 sisters I had the opportunity of experimenting with a multi-tract recording system and studio mixing using the Pro-Tools.
My music profession turned a new leaf upon my graduation. I have had the opportunity to work on different projects such as Forest Gates Arts Organization, producing music for football music logos, a Bulgarian media and the Evima. In order to experience diversity in my professional areas of jurisdiction, I also veered into video editing of educational lessons for a children’s video TV .
At the moment, I am working with producers from both Poland and America on different projects. I still believe there is still a lot to learn. Music is a diverse field that I believe it takes a lot to be well equipped with all the knowledge. I am therefore in quest to embark on a Master’s degree in commercial music production.
I hereby express my sincere interest to be accepted into the Tileyard College for my master’s program. With my desires, interest and personality, there is no better place to take this course than Tileyard. Apart from the high quality of education offered in the school, serene learning environment and the supportive instructors, Tileyard is best known for producing master minds that have worked with popular artists. One of these artist is Rihana. I therefore believe the school has what it takes to help me achieve my goal. I am opting for an online option for the course. Being accepted into the school will be another important milestone in my journey to become a music production maestro.
