Benefits of Storing Information in the Cloud

Most organizations are adopting cloud services as they are considered the most efficient option for storing data digitally. Previously, on-premise servers were used for data storage; however, the increasing volume of data generated has compelled organizations to move their data to the cloud as it offers unlimited storage. There are various reasons to shift to cloud services, one of them being enhancing information security. Storing data in the cloud is affordable and it is easy to access it without time and location limitations.

Among the many reasons to consider the cloud as a data storage option is security concerns. On-premise servers are prone to hardware failures that might expose data to severe security risks. On the contrary, cloud servers guarantee improved security because when using cloud storage, data is distributed across redundant servers. Additionally, there is no risk of hardware failure when using cloud storages (Obrutsky, 2016). Cloud servers have automated backups that ensure data remains safe in case of an incident.

Besides promoting data security, using cloud storage enhances the process of disaster recovery. A backup plan is a vital for any business despite size because disasters are inevitable. Data loss can lead to significant loses in business and even loss of customers due to lack of trust. Storing all your data on-premises is risky because all servers can be hacked into. Therefore, a cloud storage provides an appropriate backup option for organizations. Using cloud storage means that data files are stored remotely and they can be accessed and retrieved any time to allow business continuity. A cloud storage is also a cost-saving option. On-premise storage require maintenance and frequent updates, which can be costly (Chen, Chuang, & Nakatani, 2016). Additionally, cloud storage does not consume power and space that contribute to running costs in business.
