Bible Observation Report
Book: Luke Chapter(s): 4 1-13
Your questions about the text:
- After all, Jesus has stayed in the wilderness for forty days. He is definitely hungry. So, why didn’t he turn the stones into bread?
- Why does Satan not leave Jesus alone?
- What wonderful thing does Jesus say that is useful to all of us?
- What happened after Jesus told Satan to disappear?
The most important things in the text:
- The most important things in the text are the temptations that Satan tempted Jesus and the Answers that Jesus offered.
- It is also important to understand that the “Son of God” is recognized even by Satan.
- The victory of Jesus over Satan is important as it shows Him to be righteous Son of God and shows us how to overcome temptation.
What value would you and those around you find in this text?
The value that I and those around me would me find in the text is that, first, is to learn that living in the world will encounter temptation. We learn that Jesus Christ is our greatest teacher, and the example it comes to overcoming temptation. If we wish to be like Jesus, we will be eager to learn from Him how He overcame Satan.
The text compares with the Devil’s Advocate movie in a number of aspects. I believe that the main theme of the movie is that, in this world, there is nothing like free lunch. The Bible text and the movie give the lead to power and world riches. The movie deals around a character’s decision to do the right thing, just like it was upon Jesus to give in to Satan’s temptations. In the movie, Kevin Lomax is a successful lawyer who has never lost any case and tries people with things, including money, jobs, and luxury. Also, in the text, Satan tried Jesus with riches and luxury. Both the movie and Bible text teach us that we might be able to make choices, but it is good to make the right choices. Kevin Lomax was the devil’s advocate.
