The recent incident between me and the Canadian court system took place a few days ago. As a result of the outbreak of the Covid 19 epidemic, I decided to go to work at the TNT supermarket in Mississauga. I can make some money while I am contributing to the community. TNT Supermarket’s request has always been that every customer should wear a face mask when entering the store, but on July 5th, a white man and an Asian girl refused to wear a mask and broke in. The assistant store manager and the store manager rushed over immediately after hearing about the incident. I was loading the goods in the container. I just happened to see that white man insulted our assistant store manager loudly, including a lot of unpleasant sentences that discriminated against the Chinese. During the whole time, the assistant store manager did not touch them at all; he accused the assistant store manager of harassing his wife and stated that he would make the assistant store manager go to jail. He also brings his face close to the assistant store manager, lifting his fist at the same time as he prepares to strike. The assistant store manager raised his hands and said, “Sir, I am Canadian.”
The store manager is a woman. To prevent the store manager from being physically assaulted, I kept watching the store manager and telling them to leave the supermarket. Yet not only did he fail to listen, but he also yelled near the cash register that only wearing a mask would get you covid-19. Since the video was posted to YouTube by well-meaning people, there were more than 200,000 views and more than 800 comments in one day. In response to relevant reports, the minister of small bizMary Ng posted on Twitter: “I am Canadian. This is a powerful response to this hate dispute in the T&T supermarket in Mississauga. ” [1]Subsequently, president Trudeau responded that “this is hard to watch. We all have a responsibility to call out racism and discrimination.”[2]. I am touched by the support, including a lot of netizens expressing their anger at the wrongdoing of the perpetrators, supporting the police investigation, and hoping that the government will protect our multicultural society.
From the new national anti-racism strategy, “Canada stands up to discrimination on the basis of its religion and/or ethnicity against any person or group of people and this is why the Government of Canada has committed to engaging the public in a new federal anti-racism strategy.”[3]Toronto city news also claimed: “Peel police reported that the perpetrator was identified, Akhil Mooken added as well as investigating the man’s actions in the video as a hate-motivated incident.”[4] The hate-motivated incident usually has “higher penalties the judge can impose during sentencing.”[5]“ Section 718.2 of the Criminal Code specifies that the court must take into account the aggravating circumstances of an offence, including a motivation of hate. The Crown will, however, prove beyond reasonable doubt that the defendant was motivated by racism, bigotry or animosity against the victim.”
I got a three-point red light ticket as I traveled to Montreal, but I did not know why the police who gave the ticket did not appear at the trial. Formally entering the trial, the judge is a woman in her fifties, with short chestnut hair and black-rimmed glasses, who looks very professional and calm. After the party made a formal oath, I was first asked by the prosecutor about the situation on the day the ticket was released by the police, mostly the date, location, and incidence of items. I will then carry out brief self-defense. The main point of view is that I have not violated the rule, and despite driving in Canada for three years, I have never been fined for driving at a red light. What I have described is not complicated: when the red light appears at the intersection, it has to drive right. To popularize the point of knowledge: because the red light is not allowed to turn right on the island of Montreal, the police stopped my car and issued a ticket. But I claim that the right turn of the intersection is still a distance away from the intersection of the traffic lights. In this case, the front traffic light does not apply to the right turn of the intersection, i.e., there are no traffic lights at the right turn of the intersection. However, I am very impressed by the final judgment of the judge. She said, “The statement between the prosecutor and the plaintiff is somewhat contradictory. The police who issued the ticket on the same day were not here. We also did not have on-site information at the time. Once I filed a statement in this court, I prefer to believe that Tiansen is a law-abiding citizen. For this reason, I acquit the case!”
I was very satisfied with the judgment. More importantly, first of all, the Canadian police force and the trial judge are completely independent. To some extent, neither the petitioner nor the police has any interest in the judge; in the second place, the court assigned me an objective and fair translation that protects the rights of the claimant to the greatest extent and respects the linguistic differences of the different ethnic groups. Finally, what impresses is the decision of the judge. Whose words are true, whose words are false? When neither party can produce evidence that can prove the truth, the judge analyzes this controversial case from an objective perspective. Although the case is settled, imagine that if the judge rejected the complaint, everyone would generally think that the rules on the road were the responsibility of the police. Be careful not to cause any trouble next time you drive. And if the judge is willing to believe you, we will be more self-respecting and self-disciplined, live up to the trust of others, and strive to maintain our dignity.
Last experience happened in the community swimming pool last year, my mobile phone was stolen by two people while I was swimming, my locker was forced to open, and my mobile phone was stolen. Because there was no surveillance video in the locker room, the security guard called the export monitor. The video showed that two people came out not long after I walked in, and when I walked into the dressing room, there was no one else. The swimming pool staff reported the police to me, and the police gave me a case number. Come to the police; the alarm is divided into emergency and non-urgent ones. If you encounter a crime such as fighting, it is urgent, and the police station will give priority to the police, but quarreling with the restaurant waiter and the landlord, seeing that drug addicts are all non-emergency situations. Immediately arrived at the scene, but the restaurant was inspected very quickly at that time. I think it was because I called the police. Suddenly, I changed my mind and decided not to report. I hung up my phone. As a result, the police suspected that something might have happened, so I got here in five minutes. It was not a big deal at first glance when I arrived. I was very polite. It was a little hard to rethink after listening to me describing the situation on the spot.
