Moreover, it is wide since it includes Philosophy, history, analysis of governments, policies, and politics. Scholars in political science study political activities, decision making, organizations, and public policies. Ideally, this discipline identifies what people think, how they contrast in differences regarding their position in society. Similarly, political science studies how individuals regard one another, their leaders as well as their governments. According to research, higher and advanced education about politics foster positive participation in government and polices. Knowledge in political systems and policies is vital to scholars who intend to look for jobs in the public sector. Therefore, political policies, networks in the economy and society is a primary requirement from those who seek a career in diverse sectors of the job market.
According to (American Political Science Association, p 5) Political science equips one with the required skills to evolve into an effective and productive member of the community. This is the reason why students and scholars who have an interest in political science are attracted to public issues as well as politics. Ideally, some of the students are obsessed with the fight for power and public policies which portrays itself during the younger stages of life. This is to imply that students with political ambitions and interests can easily be identified through their characters and behaviors while young. A lot of politicians and leaders all over the world are identified with a history of political characters while young. The majority of such students are known to retain these interests and characters for the rest of their lives. Additionally, students of political science have the opportunities to involve themselves in community and public activities where their skills and interests are appraised.
The career opportunities in this discipline include; provincial, federal, and local governments with institutions like the legislative, executive, society organizations, (NGOs), judiciary, and private sector. Another career opportunity in political science is public policy and administration, where aspiring students are provided with internship programs to operate in government offices under President Management Internship. Typically, the defense agencies is another employer of political science students under the federal government. Other job markets under the discipline of political science include careers in other countries, intelligence departments, and the military Apart from career opportunities, political science students who are entrepreneurs can open or start joint businesses in different fields to diversify their success opportunities in life.
Although political science students have the chance to learn and gain knowledge about government rules, policies, and regulations a lot is expected from them by their employers. The following are the basic attributes of a good political science student. Should audibly be cohesive and present ideas, should have the ability to research with new ideas and applying to issues facing the society. A good student should debate and argue constructively while deploying effective leadership. In conclusion, political science does not mold someone onto a politician but shapes one to think critically while introducing the individual to lucrative job careers in the future.
